I believe mine are four inches wide. 36 - 39 Ford.

3.5 are in fact V8-60's. The rest are 4" wide....well at least for 36-39 Ford Wheels.

I have a set that are 5" wide . I was told they came off of 3/4 ton trucks ?? They are a nice looking wheel . They lean more towards a 40 style wheel in looks but still the wide 5 pattern .

  7. I think the Lincolns were 5 inch but I am not a Lincoln expert.

All the above mentioned were the widths available from the factory. Anything wider would be an aftermarket wheel.

As far as I can tell from the catalogs, wide 5 Lincolns used the normal Ford 85 wheels.
There are a few wider Ford one from 3/4--1ton truck applications, which ran right up to 1947, but they would be pretty scarce...don't think those trucks were EVER common.

  10. just went to an old junk yard that I haven't been at in years, found a stash of old wheels that I'd like to go thru when I have more time

These are the wheels I have. I believe them to be 4" wide. Would they be wide enough for 8.90-16 Firestone Dirt Tracker Grooved Rears?

Those look closer to 7.50 x 16's. That is what I run on my A, on 16 x 4's. I think that 8.90's would be too wide for a 4" wheel. The 7.50's are pushing it.

I learned a lot about wide-5s in the last year searching for a pair of 3/4 ton wheels. They came in 3.5", 4" and 5" (for the truck again). Lincoln was in fact the same as the Fords, only the caps were different. The 4" are super easy to find, anything else ussually takes a lot of effort and extra money.

I'm using the 8.90 'stones on a pair of 16x5 I found --even though Coker said the minimum width should be 6" when I asked. I haven't installed them yet.

Yes, they are 7.50-16. That is my roadster in the pic.

Yeah, I believe I read in the Coker catalog that the recommended wheel width for the 8.90-16 grooved rears is 6-8". I was just wondering if anyone had experience putting them on anything narrower.

Sorry, still on just one cup of coffee.

VERY nice ride. My next A will be of of a similar theme.

The 3/4-ton wheels, which are 16 x 5, look a little different. Here is a picture of them on Hamber NealinCA's pickup, shown with Lincoln caps.

Ask me again how well the 8.90s fit 5" wheels in two weeks, I'll know by then.

When I ordered tires for mine from Coker, they told me that the widest they would recommend for a 4" wide 16" wheel is a 700. Even with the 700's, they're plenty big enough. But, as previously mentioned, I've seen plenty of 750's on 4" wide wheels.

If they made the dirt track grooved rears in narrower widths in 16", I'd go with them. Since they don't my options are limited.

I only bought the track tires because I got a smoke'n deal, otherwise I would have bought something else. I really cannot afford $300+ a tire, or whatever it is again. For a lot of people, it's a must have item, and I understand that. Tires & wheels 'make' a car.

I do love the look of the grooved dirt-track tires, but I think that they are going to be a bit too wide for the 16 x 4.

Have you looked into widening, or re-shelling?

by 41 they had gone to anouther bolt pattern that is not the same bolt circle, i think it is like 6 1/2" or something like that, or atleast that is what was on a '41 rear i used for quickchange parts, Now I know for a fact some of the timkin rears (38-52 3/4 and 1 tons) used a wide 5 drum, and i know there are wheels that are wider and have a few slots instead of the ford wagon wheel look, But i dont know of the applications. Im in the market for 2 of the 3/4 ton drums and 5 of the wider wheels if anyone knows of some

Also it should be remembered that many of the large trucks had split rims and big diameter wheels too, I dunno if it was that early tho. So if anyone knows anything about this stuff i'd love to hear
