HaH Sled, I am a data base guy, sometimes busy, sometimes not, and we have a fast T3 data line, luckily I am able to cruz the net, as i did today, read the whole thread in a few hours, like takin a trip without leavin my desk, lol, might have a neck ache tonight, but it WAS worth it,, You Da Man, keep it comin
Sled, I am in need of a few parts. When you are out on your searches please keep your eyes out for a decent set of tail light lenses for a 1955 Chrysler New Yorker. I dont need a new set, just a decent pair. Looks like this: Along with a decent right side door handle. I am sure that it will have some pitting. Looks like this:
This is a way cool. Your an awesome guy Sled! Doing what your doing for the love of the old tin! Good Stuff. I would love to hunt around all day looking for cars, everyday must be such enjoyment! Good luck to you, and keep finding them gems! -Josh
Vividly, usually i dont look for parts alone exept some cases on rare stuff but cost nothing to keep my eyes open..im a big fan of forward look 55/61 Mopars so i will be gladly lookin for the tailights...too bad they are NOT 56 otherwise i do have an almost new set stored in the trunk of my 56 Chrysler project. About the door handle if is the same as the 56 (looks like) i do have a 56 New Yorker wich i bought only for the 354 Hemi and details..i do have couple handles still in the car but i dont remember the condition..no matter what if they are the same you can have em,i will not use them anyway.I plan to go these days to the property where this car is sittin and i'll take some pics for you...just let me know if the 56 ones are the same...Fair enuff?
Josh,well...thanks for the kind words,i feel lucky no doubt...but let me tell ya that if you believe and push hard enuff sometimes the dreams came true...so,sacrifices pays back one day.Aint easy as it looks of course but yeah,at this point its whole lotta fun...i will keep going for a while, cant get enuff of this junk, and seems coming to me all the time...could be a sickness???
sounds good. Do you need anything for your 56? My new yorker has the 331 which is a really neat engine. What did yours originally come with? I wish mine was a 56 because in 56 they converted to 12v -ground. My electrical system is 6v + ground. What a pain lol. I will do some research on if 56 handles are the same. Send me the photos as well and I will let you know. My right handle is completely broken. And ebay only has the driver side all the time never the right. I will look into it and let you know. Thanks so much Sled. No rush on the photos, when ever you get to it is fine.
Vividly, thanks but i dont think i need anything for my 56...is a rusty 4D-HT New Yorker that i bought only for the running Hemi and probably i can use dash, seats and details for a custom Merc and the Hemi for a new hotrod i have in mind...thanks for the offer buddy, very much appreciate it. Storage is close by and i plan to go this week, cause i have to get to Android314 the Merc 40 handles and lock for the Jimmy Summers Merc restoration..so,i will get both things at once before moving out again...too bad today was pouring hard all day... I like to help out guys with theier projects, and if i dont have a use for something...something else sure does. Its the good karma, you know??
More from Sled: Back for more pics...Surfin time.Always been a fan of woodies and vintage longboards so i was lookin for a cool matching longboard to match my ex 50 Ford wagon...This car was owned by a local friend o mine wich tried to restore for 20 years and such, but project stalled long ago and finally he gave up sellin it to me 2 years ago....luckily was really solid. A full frame off resto started and it was a real pain to get all the lost parts in different places locally but we managed and it took almost 2 years to get it back to full swing again...Its has been painted a custom blue metallic..rear end parts were really hard to find too. Back to the longboard its a fully restored Hobie, early 60s and its 9"...comes straight from Hawaii where has been fully restored itself... Recently the car has been sold to the US but i kept the board...love the colors!Aloha..
In the process to scarf out some more hidden woodies...dont have pics yet but luckily soon...im following some good leads....stay tuned fellas
Buzn1...Welcome to the Hamb family then, lot to learn around here...and havin fun too! Stay tuned...i will be going until they shoot me down, wich aint so easy,ah,ah,ah
Hey Sled, Hope you're ok man?? I read this on the news today... "OAXACA, Mexico-- A disaster official says at least eight people are dead and 100 are missing in two mudslides in the southern state of Oaxaca. Oaxaca state Civil Protection operations coordinator Luis Marin Castillejos says an avalanche in the community of Santa Maria Tlahuitolpetec has killed at least seven people, while at least another 100 are missing. The state's governor earlier said as many as 1,000 could be buried there. Castillejos said Tuesday another slide in the community of Villa Hidalgo killed at least one person."
Novadude, thanks for the concern but im very fine...its rainy season here til end of october and its really raining a lot in many areas of Mexico...Tabasco,Veracruz are heavily affected as usual... Those areas you mention are probably close to city of Oaxaca ...many mountains there, beautiful places to discover, lots of culture...i've been there last year for a while just on my way to the Panamericana race and i will be crossing again Oaxaca again soon day 23 october when all the Carrera race stops there again on the way north... Actually im already preparing the whole Panam race logistics for my pals racing team..
Well Alright,, whew,, I thot that this might be the end of the thread, OK, So what are you waiting for???? Lets see some more MEXICAN JUNK!! hahaha, j/k Take care Sled,,
Another newbe here, and I just love this! It's amazing to me that there's so much stuff down there. Just so cool!
More from Sled: Lets keep the show going,fellas...this stuff is hidden in a dry place since many years and is not going anywhere for a while..guy is just too expensive. He probably will die with his toys.. The 40 Ford it has been street rodded in the 90s i think, runs good but it has the billet stuff that nobody wants nowadays..besides of that a really cool car. And the Merz is not too shabby also....luckily there is no rust at all there, just dust...who knows, one day...
From Sled: How about a cool 37 Zephyr project??My favorite kustom lines ever here...well,37 to 39 are about the most kustom factory cars in history...absurd and exessive, and way cool! Affordable art deco on wheels compared to coachbuilt european cars of the same era..im following this one from a while and its the only 37 Zephyr 3w i know in Mexico so far...it was found in a hidden ranch in a desert area...bench seat was there also but guy told me it stayed at the ranch used as a porch sofa in front of the house, and probably still there..who knows! Neglected as hell, but still i would love to fix this one....
I think Sled is "The faithfull Quixote of the clunkers. Yea amigo, you make it good. Eh.......I think I see a windmill in the distance...........
So have you been able to seal the deal on that one? Looks pretty solid. Happy hunting my friend. Marcy
Hey Marcy, not yet unfortunately...the owner is kinda tight and expensive on his prices and i never get a final price on this one..but im patiently waiting to rescue it... In the other end i got way better options on 3w Zephyrs in Mexico ,so im not in a hurry on this one...its a full project and luckily the other door is inside the car...will call ya one of these days...happy trails , sled
Message from Sled: back to hearses,i know there are couple of fans on here...Gothic as hell..unmistakable front end, Packard 36/37 hearse ...probably Miller according to fellow hamber Original Patina wich is an hearse expert... Drivetrain is still mounted,a big monster size...all side panel inserts are wood and they are massive...this is stored here indoors at list since 25 years and it has been bought in as is conds, just for display and long forgotten...too bad the driver's door is missing and the grill too.. i cant imagine how much dough it will take to bring this one back to glory...
Message from Sled: Well, some vintage european stuff does'nt hurt, right? Its a cool BMW,later 40's i think but i forgot the type...the hood is alluminum, and the body is quite elegant...havent seen any drivetrain around, who knows?I was there checkin out any kind of stuff and i did'nt had any idea of what could be there..probably the experts here will chime in with more proper infos in no time...please do!
That BMW could be pre-war or post-war, looks like the cheapest of the ordinary base model sedans. There were coupes and convertibles that were custom bodied and quite nice, and a similar but larger 6 cyl 4-door "330" that could actually get out of its own way. After the war, the East Germans used former BMW factories and tooling to build them as the "EMW" with no competition from the real thing, since BMW's factories in West Germany were all bombed out. Too bad the engine's gone, might be the valuable part, LOL. For many years after the war, these were running around in the Eastern Sector with later engines fitted.
Harry, thanks for the input...you just had the same impression as mine, pre or post war they look almost the same...and so many variations. Not sure that the drivetrain is gone..i think it was under rebuilt or stored somewhere in the place..havent seen it cause there was so much stuff and went there for other cars taht i was after so i did'nt paid much attention to this one...same for the bikes EMW's the Eastsiders were poorly copying the patterns of the westerners, but evidently results were below average...
