i just got a th400 tranny and the yoke is bolted into the tail does any one know wut it takes to change it to a slip yoke?
Should be able to. They made a few different styles...try not to get the one that has the long sleeve at the front, and the vent hole in the back, as it's designed to be used with an O ring on the output shaft.
thanks for all the info !!! ya i had never seen a bolt on yoke i think it might be from a truck trans with a telescopic drive shaft
I got a yoke for mine from Inland Impire drive shafts, but you would have to replace the output shaft and tail housing to convert it to regualar. I found out the hard way.
Dennys Drive line has sold the slip yoke for the O-ring design out put shaft for years... they are online too
I'm practily in that guys backyard but bought my yoke and drive shaft from the other side of the country. That's all I'm going to say about that. Here's Inland's web site http://www.iedls.com/
I tried to put a regular th400 yoke in that trans I have and it bottomed out after only going in a few inches. When I matched up the depth it went in just as long as the bolt on yoke was, which is about half as long as the regular yoke. If I remember the yoke wasn't splined all the way to the end like a regular yoke either. Check out my thread about this yoke http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=177928 .
