I have been building my own personal projects for myself for a couple of years now, But lately I have been having quite a few people calling me or stopping by my shop wanting me to do work on their cars or make parts for them. after these past couple of weeks I been pretty slammed with work on projects for other people so I figured, well maybe I can make a few extra bucks outa this shop. SOO I am going to start a couple little side projects. One of the things I would like to do in the future maybe spring is have a car show for a kick start of it. I have a 3 acre plot of land that my shops sits on and plenty of open space. I was thinking about having a car show but I have never done anything like this. What do I need and what do I need to know other than the obvious??
The car show if it happens would be right outsideof Cuero, TX. If I made it happen would any of you guys be interested in attending???

    Thanks

Some pointers when we started a cruise in.

1.) Do not promote it as a car show. Guys/Gals will show up with thier "show cars" and expect concourse judging and guys that do not think they have "show cars" will not bring thier rigs. Promote it as a "cruise in".

2.) Have it on pavement/concrete if possible. If it is on gr***, make sure it is cut and the clippings picked up, because somebody with open fenderwell headers is going to show up and create a tornado of everything over some "show car".

3.) Do not charge any fee, what-so-ever, to the folks that bring thier rigs to your cruise in. This has irked me to death. DO NOT CHARGE THE PEOPLE THAT WILL MAKE OR BREAK YOUR CRUISE IN!! I have left many because of this.

4.) Do have door prizes and a 50/50 available. Local parts houses, restuarants, ice cream parlor's, silk screen shop's love to toss in cheap prizes for free publicity. Cruisers and visitors alike love the chance to win stuff, we have all been there. If you are really feeling the vibe, ask some bigger business's to donate for some plaques for the various cruise in awards, people choice, best Mopar, etc..

5.) Make sure you separate the cruisers rigs from the spectators vehicles.

6.) Be liberal in what you allow to park in the cruisers area. Especially in the first year.

7.) Music, whether a D.J. or your cousin is palying the tunes, play 'em. Themed cruise music only.

8.) If possible, have some burgers or dogs available at a nominal fee along with some water or cheap soda. This can pay for the DJ.

9.) Some one will ***** and complain about something. It is human nature. It is gonna happen, shrug it off and attempt to fix it next year.

10.) Next year will be bigger and better so get some help involved.

That was my personal experience as a budding rodder in my early 20's in the early 1990's. We started a yearly cruise in at the local Arby's and got about 50 cars the first year, by year 3, we were looking at over 500 cars. Thankfully, the Arbys was in a retail plaza with plenty of parking. I am sure others will offer insight, but most of all, have fun.
