Last nights cruise was a friggin blast! Not much traditional stuff this time but we definitely recreated that small town cruising vibe we were going for. Lots of automotive tomfoolery this time. Nothing like the smell of burnt rubber hanging in the thick summer air and the sound of 4 speed musclecars getting raped on a two lane blacktop. Here's a few pics. Like I said, not all traditional cars but it's a traditional experience so I'm posting em anyway. More of you need to come out and try this. I'll post the next date when we know what it is.

Here ya go. These are just a few of the cars coming and going. Just posting some of the stuff that kinda fits here. And I threw in the pocket bike cause I like the pic. It illustrates the kind of foolishness that makes this fun. The other foolishness I can't post pics of for fear of self incrimination. This one was great and remember you don't have to have a hot rod to come out and enjoy the experience. Not everyone was driving a rod when they were cruising back in the day. The cars are just a part of this, not really the main focal point. It's all about the atmosphere. We went from around 7:30 till 11:30 this time. Drug the grill down to the station after they closed and had some burgers. Everyone was cool with each other again and I gotta say it's pretty neat to see so many genres of car guys who don't know each other hitting it off like this. We had crotch rockets, 4X4s, lowriders, early muscle cars, late model musclecars, and more coming and going this time. Who'd a thunk dragging out the cars and just hanging out somewhere with absolutely no organization or rules would be such a blast? Actually, a bunch of us did cause it's what we used to do when we were teenagers. See ya all at the next one.

Had a great time. I feel sorry for everyone who missed the goat-stang "tomfoolery" at the end of the night. Classic! Thanks to everyone for coming out.

I must admit the GTO vs. 5.0 was one of the cooler street brawls I've seen. Not exactly an even match up but watching the stang's head start disappear so quickly was pretty wild. Here's a vid of the goat in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4ex5i5qmng

Looking like we might try this again the first weekend in September. I'll keep you all updated. Come try this out. The last one was a ball.

sounds like my town, and almost every other one around it. nobody cares about your late-model muscle, especially since they are a dime a dozen now.

hope you guys are having fun down there; wish i was closer or i'd be in!!

Lemont, IL..... You couldn't be more than 4 hrs up the road. Plenty close enough. Get that Olds out on the road and stretch it's legs. And if you're really adventurous don't get off the two lanes on your way down and back.

Not to steal your thunder, but it is happening all over, however it is more common for a weekend breakfast get-together. Search on here for "HAMB and eggs", "HAMB and scrapple", etc. etc.

Looks like the kids had fun too. Something memorable for them. I went to Hopedale this weekend, nice to stop and sit in a little town for a while. A gang of local kids were out running around all exited about the cars that showed up. Made it worth going, plus I sat down and had a long talk with a large swirl ice cream cone.:D

I don't want to diminish your breakfast get togethers, but they don't really relate to what we're shooting for here. Getting the rods out and driving them is cool no matter what, but we're going for more of that late summer night flirting, drinking (if you're old enough), tire squealing, riding around with someone you've never met before, etc. etc. atmosphere. Remember the stuff you used to do when you were 17. Granted, we're not 17 anymore and most of us are married, got kids, and usually fall asleep at 9:30. But if these keep going like the last one it's a heck of a walk down memory lane, and we're showing some kids who've never done this before what cruising should look like. Sept 4th is the next one. Come on out and party with us.

Hold off on the 4th. We may have to bump this next one back a couple weeks. I'll get some more info posted ASAP.

Gonna have to make the next on Sept 18. I think we'll set it for the 3rd Saturday from here out. We'll probably do one in Oct and then start again in April 2011.

Heck I would consider coming from Omaha ... my inlaws live about an hour and half north of there, we could in corporate the cruise in a visit. That is as long as you wouldn't mind an O/T musclecar showing up ???

It's not a traditional car only deal at all. We've got a little bit of everything showing up. Totally unorganized and no rules is our theme. Come out on a lawnmower if you want. Watcha want to bring by the way?

I liked the station if you did. We can always run back and forth if anyone needs to do any prep work for the "festivities". The astros look bitchin by the way. Think they made it any faster?

Things may get even more heated this time around. There should be a 550hp GMC Safari Van attending and he may be bringing friends with some heavy hitters. May be more than the goat can handle.

Did you guys get together on the 18th? I was stuck in Utah until yesterday. Hate that I had to miss it!

We did but it was raining pretty heavy. Me and Heath were there of course with the GTO and Belair. A guy brought a late model Chevy truck lowrider from Clinton and a couple guys from Taylorville came out with a Big Block 70 GMC shortbed. We ended up just fooling around with it in the shop for an hour or two. That was about it. We'll do one more this year in October. Hopefully the weather is decent and we can go out with a bang.
