how to age magnesium ?

    Ok i did a stupid thing,i bead blasted my magnesium halibrand spindle mounts,i dont know what i was thinking,,i liked the grey finish better,any suggestions besides letting them sit for 20 years?:D

    they will go grey pretty fast on their own, I would bet almost overnight in Florida

    Mist with a water spay bottle and leave outside overnight....that's what I did .

    Google "chrome pickle". I used to work in an aircraft overhaul shop with alot of magnesium castings and whenever we gl*** beaded the corrosion off, we would "chrome pickle" it with a chromic acid solution and it would turn it a dark grey and etch the surface to resist further corrosion.
     
  14. ShakeyPuddin's right. I like to dilute the mixture with water to tone the etching action down a bit until I see how it's going to act when I spray the wheels. Next time you put mags in the blast cabinet try changing your abrasive to aluminum oxide >>>>.

    ok,so i will piss on them everyday,wash them with vinager,last ditch i will soak them in the ocean,,if i leave them outside a s****per will steal them,,:D,,,,yea ,i am joking,,but thanks,

    I work in a commercial kitchen, when we leave the sheet pans in the sanitizing solution too long the oxidize (grey) alum and SS pans.
