Around what year did panel paint jobs start?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by RoadFarmer, Sep 27, 2010.

  1. When did Panel and Lace paint jobs start to grow in popularity? I was brainstorming for a project, but wasn't sure if I was inline with the era I wanted to be in. I'm figuring early 60's ish??? That correct?

Larry Watson painted up that brand new 1958 T bird. Went from the dealership to muffler shop and then to Barris and then his paint booth.

The lace panel effect was certainly a custom fad spanning the late fifties through most of the 60s. I remember when I was growing up , my delinquent neighbors boy freind had a built '67 GTO that was candy burnt orange with black lace side panels,
we all thought that was the baddest ass car around. It left a vision burned into my memory. Recently I tried the lace panel effect on a small project , the more intricate the lace the more dazzling the result,
just be sure the lace cloth is orientated in the right directiont to avoid repeating patterns , and tight against your project, a little fog around edge helps. Good luck!
