When did Panel and Lace paint jobs start to grow in popularity? I was brainstorming for a project, but wasn't sure if I was inline with the era I wanted to be in. I'm figuring early 60's ish??? That correct?
Larry Watson painted up that brand new 1958 T bird. Went from the dealership to muffler shop and then to Barris and then his paint booth.
The lace panel effect was certainly a custom fad spanning the late fifties through most of the 60s. I remember when I was growing up , my delinquent neighbors boy freind had a built '67 GTO that was candy burnt orange with black lace side panels, we all thought that was the baddest ass car around. It left a vision burned into my memory. Recently I tried the lace panel effect on a small project , the more intricate the lace the more dazzling the result, just be sure the lace cloth is orientated in the right directiont to avoid repeating patterns , and tight against your project, a little fog around edge helps. Good luck!
