Made some big progress on my little c10 and wanted to share... Got this pig in Dec. and started in on it strait away. No it is not perfect, no it will never by the best rig on the Hamb or even close. It is, however, the most ground up project I have accomplished. Learned a ton and had a great time. I couldnt have done it without some good friends and the help of sound professionals. I have some pics on my Album as well. This is when I got it from my buddy Rob part of the deal I got was to pull the motor with Rob at my house. So I got my oldest boy out there and we had at it After relizing we it had the front cross member already sectioned up into the frame I was geeked to see how low it would go At that point I got to work on getting the front to lay on the frame as it still would go down all the way. My friend Todd at Lowboy Motorsports www.lowboymotorsports.com told me how to lift the steering and such up and pie cutt the upper spring perches so the pig would just about lay frame on my wheel tire combo. Also upgraded the steering to 70s c10 stuff. For whatever reason I cant find any pics of that process... was too focused on making the changes I guess. Big thanks to my friend Dino for giving me an radiator and bench seat and insperation with his chevys. After I was satisfied with the front I smoothed the firewall and built motor mounts then delivered the truck to Todd so he could build the back half for it. I then stripped it down cutt off the back of the frame so he could fab up the rest. I then with the help of my friend Rob put the motor and ****** (craigslist 350 and a rebuild 700r4) in the truck. Put the bags in on shraders and trailered it home. I then clearanced the front clip to take the wheels and tires at drop I wanted to be able to drive 4"s off the ground and not stress to bad.
I had to see how it would look layed out. I had my youngest work the shraders he loved it Plumbed it and did my very first wiring job. Again thanks goes to Rob for helping me with some of the kinks and guiding me through some of the electrical issues. This pic was a happy day...pulled out the garage under its own power... here is ride hieght Put it back toghether and took it to the muffler shop and continued working on bugs here its rollin on its own now. Then it went to paint and body at my friend Joels Garage. He is an amazing striper, sign painter, renderurer... 1320 designs www.1320designs.com he also stuffed a vintage air and heat system from Industrial chasis. he painted it hot rod flatz champaigne metalic gold
heres some more pics This last weekend we went to scallops, putting it back together, getting it home then pinstripping. Rob again came over and showed us how to put windows in! Fnn crazy tuff back window. Joel really did me right...cant say enuff about his killer work. The bed was hell and he really cleaned up Thanks again Joel! I can say I totally love this truck...it has turned out like I wanted it...soo pumped. BTW. did I tell you this truck saved my sons life. Check out this post and bolt your tool boxes down Again I wanted to thank Rob, Todd and Joel for putting so much of their time and effort into this truck...but more for putting up with my stress case ***.
Oh no, thank you! And hey what are friends for! You should hurry up and find another project since this one's almost done...
Thanks guys...dante was pushin me to scrub that motor down thorougly before I painted it. Glad I did..thanks
Love the paint job! And your dog. Is that a pug or a boston terrier? He'll look sweet riding with you!
Awesome truck and work!! What's with the ****ty rating?? ****in' retards. Great truck. ******Knuckles
Nice looking thing you've got there. couple nitpicks,,,, you should fishplate the seams on teh rear frame, both sides. and the upper wishbone, is it a track locator or upper control arm? If its a track locator it should have a slider or its gonna bind. PM me if you have any questions.
Its the upper control arm. top two arms are linked together. The inners are welded with supports...it aint going no where.
Keep an eye on that upper link, especialy at the rear bushing and such, it wont take much articulation to twist it. I see no fishplates of any kind on your framerails, I've heard that aint going nowhere **** before. it will if not properly gusseted.. But what would I know. Not trying to piss on your parade Dude, but when **** goes wrong your parade can turn into a proccession.
I have to agree with Da Tinman on this one. I have pics of a fishplated failure on a boxed tubing angle like your frame. It can happen. I would fishplate the sides and especially the underside where the stess would be. Just a strap welded would be sufficient. As for the upper link I would consider rubber bushings. It will offer a bit of articulation but will still hold the axle in place. ******Knuckles
thanks for your input...had this type system on a daily driven dually with semis...no worries for 4 years. One thing i have learned is that someone will always have the "right" way to do it. I have had great experience with these. This thing handles and rides amazing...and actually we did gusset both sides of the frame...I just dont have a picture of it. Thanks again for the advice.
The seat is at the upholsterur now. going with white diamonds. I will build a sub bed with inner fender wells and maybe a tonou cover to match the bench. black loop carpet.
Looks Great erock. I can see a pleated toneau (sp?) cover on that thing to cover your goodies. Nice work!
U bet...Just made Cl***ic Truck Magazine. Which may not be a big deal on this forum...just cool that it made a mag. I am pumped.
