  1. I bought many cars out of that yard in the late 70's. I still have a '42 chevy coupe that came out of there. Cars behind trees, on the hillside. Everywhere. I was amazed at the condition of the cars. The guy that ran the place let you look all you wanted ... Just don't open hoods or doors until he gave the OK..

Verbal Kint has it right. Do the math. Anyone got any cars or parts for sale right now? Unless it's a virgin Ford coupe for .20cents on the dollar those inquiries are pretty rare, huh? If it bothers you so much go save em. Stop shopping from catalogs and ebay and visit some local hotrod buisness or yard. Beyond that, be happy for the family that scrap was near an all time high when that was posted. Too harsh? Welcome back to reality...

  3. I agree as well. How many of us has 10 or 20 acres of vacant, unzoned/unrestricted land, and $200-$300 or more, for EACH "classic car" that needs saving, plus the time, $$$ and effort to retrieve and relocate them? I don't While it's sad to see so much of this old Americana to go to Mr Crusher, reality is what it is and the economics of it all simply prohibits many of us from saving these old cars. But as some already said - if you want 'em so bad, go get 'em. NOW. This is an excellent time to get motivated and apply $$$ to our wishlists before it's too late.

I guess the theme is, and somehow my wife has to understand this.. we need to buy every car we see and can afford.. yeah.. that's it.. I'll explain to my wife that we're saving history .. everybody with over an acre start your own yard.. Oh wait.. we can't do that anymore.. if it isn't the zoning laws it's the eco laws.. if it isn't the eco laws it's the junker laws.. if it isn't the junker laws it's the ... well you get the idea. Just load up your garages now!

Its what we have in store for us now. With the damn epa and all the rules and regulations that have run operating expenses out of site you can expect to see more of this than you want to see. I am buying up some old front clips as I find them now just to have in the event I may need one at some point. Old iron when you really need it will be a thing of the past.

So, if this guy offered up all of the cars for a hundred bucks each, how many of you would have rushed over there and brought home 2 or 3?

    I thought so.

I'll be bringing 2 cars to the crusher this week that aren't too far off in condition from the ones in the video. No titles, and parts that cost me more in time to remove than the 5 or 10 bucks that people are willing to give me for them. I have 2 acres next to my house where I can keep maybe a dozen cars. Time and time again, I "save" a restorable car from the crusher and I can't give it away for crusher price. The reality remains that there are still more cars out there than buyers.

I agree....go buy it all up and keep it or sell it yourself. I have a feeling that lots of people want "someone' else to do it for them....which is pretty much the way most people think today.
The battle cry for this generation is "someone do something".
50 years ago guys would say "I'll do something".
In the meantime, it's just private property and the owner can do with it all what he wants to...

No it's not the baby boomer generation. We're not the ones with that battle cry. Most who do the bitching are under 40 probably even under 30

I was at that yard a couple of years ago when they were about half way through crushing. My understanding was they were not crushing everything. That whole yard was covered here before prevously when this went down she had all kinds of toys, bikes ect in barns. I got the whole tour sad she would sell some stuff but everything I wanted wasnt for sale go figure.

If every person that bitched about crushing cars would buy just one from the HAMB classifieds we would see a major improvement in the economy, and a drastic reduction in cars that have been for sale for months. Perhaps you could just buy a part instead, no the shipping would cost too much. It costs nothing to bitch, perhaps that is why it is so popular. I think nothing of driving 10 hours one way to go to an Auction or wrecking yard. A lot of people bitch if they have to go farther than their computer. Did you read the comments after the video? The real problem is that people have no concept of what is restorable. All they see is an old car. Granted the rust zone could have used some of those bodies, but even at $50 a piece, most people would bitch about what it cost to ship them. Thin em out, maybe someday I 'll be able to sell something again.
