I've seen numerous things done to '49 - '54 Chevies and of course the engine of choice because of ease of install, etc (and the fact it's a Chevy) is the Chevy sb.

Has anybody installed a Ford sb into one of these?

I'd like to see pics if so... contemplating the same thing myself.

    thx.

I saw one built by a guy out of Grand Junction CO. Twin turbo if I remember right. I will see if I can find pix.

  10. yer going to hell.

And the reason the 460 never blew up is that it made no power and wouldn't rev high enough to sling its rods...;)

Well I may not be getting the pics I asked for, but I'm sure getting a lot of laughs.... !

  13. Sorry no pics but, there's a '51 or '52 here with a 351 (I think) anyway a sbf in it. Said he did it to piss people off and swears his next project is a '57 Chevy with a flat head ford V8. I can think of a couple of far fetched reasons to put a sbf in a '49-'54 Chevy but to piss people off ain't one of them. Just sounds stupid. All that said the car runs like stink.

Well I've got both sitting in my shop... what the heck. I know the SB Ford is a good runner...recently rebuilt and pulled from my 70's van. The C6 is strong.. what the heck...

  16. well, it's not quite like paying a ****** with a personal check, but it's close. Unless you're on a tight budget and that's all you've got.

Figure on the same issues as any other 49-54 install - tight clearance on the steering limits your left manifold choices, likely will have to shave the firewall ribs, make sure the fan will clear the radiator - and plan to make your own mounts.

You most likely will have to do a remote oil filter as it will probably hit the frame. As for 460's not making power? I have a 466" engine in my Mustang drag car that make over 800 ponies on the dyno... And I drive it on the street! Only problems I have are paying for 112 octane racing fuel

Ah, that's B.S. - the 460 is a great motor, although I'd take an FE if given the choice. Now, a small block Ford on the other hand...not so much. I just don't care for them. It would be more difficult to install that in a Chevy than to just trade the motor for a Chevy drive train and install that.

All you really have to do is bring the engine up a little higher. I've already got it sitting in my '55 Buick, but the Buick is a long ways off from getting done, and the '49 WILL be out on the road by May 27th of next year.. (long story.. we won't go into detail)...

I do have a SB chevy sitting in the Chevy right now.. just looked at it the other day and yawned... I'm putting this thing together and don't want to yawn.. If I'M yawning that could be awfully dangerous once I actually start driving the thing.... ha!

Think I'll pull the Ford out of the Buick and stick it in the Chevy.. then I'll take the Chevy and put it in the Buick..... hey.. wonder if I could find an International engine out there.... kidding.

eeeeeewwwwww a Ford engine!! I love Ford bodies, A's and T's and 53-56 F100's but Ford engines I do not care for. Except for the Flathead V8 and the 427 SOHC that is. I worked at a shop for three years that built nothing but Ford's. I still have nightmares about that damn distributor in front.

This is a can of worms?

    Who opened It?

I'd say just put a SBC in there and call it quits.

A Ford motor may run good, but still would you be anxious to show people what was under the hood?

I think even more so.. for the same reason I brought it up here. Much more lively conversation and reaction versus.. "Oh a Chevy SB".. "Nice".

I guess I'm just surprised at how much it really matters... I know there are Chevy guys.. Ford Guys.. and it's kind of like rootin' for your favorite team.. however.. I don't HAVE a favorite team.. My word, I live in Seattle.. We have the Seahawks! You see what I mean? :D

So come on.. I'm sure SOMEBODY has done it out there?????

So you want it to be a conversation piece, About how you screwed up a perfectly good chevy?

    Cool........

I'm gonna say good for you, and do what you want.

    No worries.
