Big Olds needs the passenger door beltline trim. It 43 inches long and about 1 inch wide. Looks like this. One end looks like this The other end looks like this And the backside has 10 little rusted clips like this Here's my question. Big Olds is a 1947 Oldsmobile convertible model 66. I know he has Chevy doors. What other models can I look at to aquire this piece? What interchanges? Does it have to be a convertible? Are coupes and sedans options?? What other models?? What other years? I need help cuz I've had a couple of guys say they have a Chevy this or that but I'm not sure if it's going to fit.
I just scanned throught some picts of 46-48 Chevy's, Pontiacs, and Oldsmobiles in both coupes and torpedo-backs, and the trim looks the same or at least similar. Maybe someone can look it up in a Hollander interchange book, if that type of info is in there.
I have a couple of old Hollanders and the small trim is not listed. You need a pair of old GM parts books. One for Chevrolet and one for Olds....
sorry, cant help ya with the trim denise. but if you need new clips for em. Talk to either me or crestliner. Nick
Thanks Nick, most seem to move ok, a couple are stuck. I was just thinking I could PB Blast them to loosen them up and I'd be good to go. I'll let you know if I end up needing replacements. Thanks for the offer. and, in true HAMB fashion, THOM from IL is sending the trim off a '48 coupe. Lets hope it's the same. And some folks wonder why I LOVE the HAMB soooo much. Viva La HAMB!
Denise -- All the beltline trim on the car is Chevy -- the Olds trim was narrower and ribbed, as I recall. But I'm not sure if coupe/convert trim is the same on doors. Sounds like you'll find out soon! Steve.
Thanks for the info Steve, thats good to know. All the stainless is going for polishing and chrome-able pieces are getting done. He'll be looking spiffy in no time. I can't wait for you too see him
Denise I've got a whole shitload of Chevy trim piece's from my 47 and my 52, maybe some of them will work. Give me all the measurements and I'll sort through them this weekend. BB
Still looking for this door trim piece. The ones THOM sent didn't fit. 43 inches long, 1 inch wide. Looks like ONLY '47 Chevy CONVERT (?) will do. '46 has a rib in it and '48 is too wide. Anyone got any lying around?? Also, if anyone is heading to the AutoFair in Charlotte this weekend I'd appreciate you keeping an eye out for me.
Well Honey.......... I got your back...........printed the pictures and WILL look at Charlotte......looks like rain today........ Just hope they are laying on some rare elusive 32 Ford part... Your Topless cruisin Bud........ Randy
Denise, If you look at Rickster's post about Westergard customs I think you'll see the trim you need. Can't go back 50 years and get it, off of one of those, but looks like what you been lookin' for. I thought the trim on my '48 was the same but I scrapped it when I filled all the holes in in 1955.
Thats "ream" and suck bud That makes you like my Dad's age You coming up to Detroit for BilletProof in June by any chance? Sure would like to see your Merc in person.
Thanks Clark, you are a sweetheart. I've got Junkyarddog.com searching for me as well, and along with Deuce Roadster and Earl Schieb, hopefully something will materialize soon. Thanks again bud xoxo
it is'nt quite that simple. the trim from my 47 Chev is 1 1/8" and there is no reason to think it is anything other than original since this car was pretty well unmolested and original. at least till i got ahold of it .... it's likely that the different trim levels had, well, different trim. good luck...
Looked Friday........no luck but did find a few 32 goodies...... Came home and reloaded.........leaving Columbia at 6:30 AM ( NOW ) Heading back... Will Look some more.........
They 'prolly won't let me in the gate if it is truly billetproof as my motor has a lot of bling bling, but sure would like to get there if I'm allowed in. Somebodys got to be your dad's age or he'd be the only one from that generation. Year 1955: Drag racing from stop light too stoplight in downtown Dayton, OH. on Friday & Saturday nights with tires squealing and flame throwers on and not being stopped by the police. Dual exhaust pipes were all 1-3/4" and the velocity of the exhaust gases were higher therefore the flames shot out a lot further than they do today. You had to be careful as to how close you stopped to the car in front of you. It was a good generation to be a part of! I'll see if I can help with the trim.
Just don't open the hood and no one will ever know. I certainly won't tell. My dad's got the same stories, one he like to tell about racing his '49 Olds full tilt from TX to Detroit, neither of the cars stopping at lites or anything. As far as the trim goes, any help you can offer would be appreciated. TY
Your right Mike, forgot to add CONVERT, but I just corrected that. Hopefully, I'll get lucky by just going by the measurements.
BTT for the lady..... No Luck today.............not even a decent 32 Ford part...... Scattered Rain kept me close to my spaces......... Did have a meeting with A-Bomb, Boones, Modifliedriver and Pinstriper......all pretty cool Hambers.... May go back tomorrow........ But I sure am tired....... .
Denise, Went to a small car show today in Washington, KY; population of about 60. They had a "Chocolate Festivel" going on. Guy drove in with a '48 Chevy Fleetmaster 5-passenger coupe. Door trim is 43-1/2" long and 1-1/8" high. (Could be 1/32 shy of the 1-1/8") It sure looks close to your picture! I didn't have a digital camera with me but I conned a lady attending te show as a visitor to take a picture of it for me. She promised to e-mail it to me next week. Hope this helps, Blown49
