hello everyone i am kind of new to this site so here it goes my name is steve remy i am 23 years old and i am from assonet, ma and i lots of 20-50's car parts you name it. i am building a 1932 ford roadster right now and i am putting a 59ab flat head in it with a top loader (unsure of trans year) and i am coming up about 7 inches short i know the torque tube was cut and was shortened so anyway my question is can i use a torque tube from a 32 ford bolt up and work with my transmission? please let me know thanks so here's some pics of the 32 and maybe you guys would know what this windshield is from?
Dont know .But bitchin car , Worse case scenario ,Open driveshaft conversion and get a drive shaft made ,
You may get more hits with the morning crowd. Just a guess but the windshield divider might be just a homemade add on, or a very old aftermarket piece.
the splines on the axle should line up with the u joint on the end of the transmission. you may have to modify the cup seal that holds torque tube some to get it to bolt up. but definately appears that you will have to extend the torque tube and axle. just be sure to have some quality welds on the axle. nice project though, and welcome to the site
It is hard to tell from the photos but the rear of the transmission looks like it is in the original position. If that is the case, the stock '32 rear end should work fine. I think I would weld a top piece across the top of the stock K member for rigidity and a vertical section to enable you to use the '32 transmission mount (this will mean that you must pull the engine to remove the transmission in the future). My guess is that it is an original windshield with the mounting brackets modified to slant it back. The piece in the center looks like a home made add on from a later vehicle (or maybe an aftermarket add on). It looks like a good project. The photos are of my car for comparison. Charlie Stephens
