I have these quick release battery clamps on my avatar and was wondering where I can purchase more of them, or are they old and not made any more. Does anyone else have them ? I've googled and not found them anywhere.
I've seen them, but not for some time...red, green colors, green smaller obviously. Check aircraft supply houses, or electrical wholesalers

Here's the patent info from 1985 if it helps; Click here: US Patent 4555159 - Page 1 Image - Battery post connector
Yep, I found that in my googling but I want to know where to get them if they are still available. They would go down a treat here in NZ if I could get them in bulk. I tried the Batteries R us link above but no luck. Anyone got them or know who makes them?
Easier for what? You've still got to attach that switch to cables which in turn attach to battery terminals, which the OP was interested in. I agree with you, just about every car should have a shut-off switch for the battery, mounted closely to the battery itself, alongside a properly rated fuse. We have some ratcheting quick release terminals in the states, available at most auto parts stores, but I think they are sort of hokey (not in a good way). I've used them before with some success but they don't seem to hold up well. I've never used this style, but it may be suitable to your interest: http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/battconns/battclamps.php I'm not a big fan of this style as clamping the cable in can be met with mixed results and in some cases can lead to the cable eventually pulling out. I prefer soldered and crimped copper terminals with a bolt and nut to fasten them. My favorite battery terminals are used on BMW vehicles, though I'm unsure of the root manufacturer, so access to them is limited -- they are also not quick-release as you are requesting either. Second only to the BMW terminals are the MS75004 US mil-spec battery terminals, again they aren't quick-release but they look the beans for an old car, offer lots of connection space and are durable. Good luck in your search -- I understand it can be a bother getting most things in New Zealand.
Uhh............to cut power to the car. Those first ones seem like just a way to cut corners and cheap out.
Haha ..how about that. In my own backyard too. I like mine better but it looks like someone beat me to it.....still looking.
