Corvette Carlisle...What recession?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ChevyGasser Madness, Aug 29, 2010.

  1. I needed a few parts and was in search of a certain 327 block so I went up to the Corvette Carlisle event.....I can move pretty fast through the isles scanning until I see what looks like a deal or need. I spotted a set of Knockoffs on a shabby table with a burnt out looking guy sitting on the ground eating pretzels and spitting them out while he talked:eek:. Hey... wadda ya gettin on the wheels? I asked. Between pretzels he mumbled 25,000...... I know some of these dudes are snortin' Babbo or something dilusional. 25K for wheels, ok its the "Corvette crowd", but C'Mon Man! The sick part is, Someone will probably buy them! Cars for 110K, rollers for 28K. I did find a set of 57 997 heads that I wanted but they were only 3000:eek:. I got a few low dollar things I needed and met up with some friends, so it was good, but there is no recession with that crowd! I just looked through the NCRS Driveline ads and there is a real deal in there for a set of early vintage wheels for 80,000................now I know they are on Babbo!

Anyone looking for "a certain 327 block" at Corvette Carlisle shouldn't walk away surprised at the prices they find there.

Wow you could have come to Macungie and bought a 53 covettte replica street rod much cheaper. It didn't look bad.

Yet again, don't confuse asking price with selling price. He can ask whatever he wants. He can carry the parts back home again, too...

Give me the description of the "327 block our looking for. I've saved over 50 Chevrolet v8 blocks and the most expensive one is less than $15,000. Shipping is a little high as I insist on delivering them by camel (don't want to risk getting them ruined with rust if a flood occures), but even at that I'm guessing you'll have less than $20,000 to your door. Let me know they are going fast.

There was an original 58 mostly untouched original for 70k at Macungie too the owner had owned it since 1964. It was black & silver.

Don't throw darts, but who would want a vet.

  13. I know the Hamb is not too Corvette friendly that is why I was poking a little fun at some of the outrageous levels those cars and parts have reached! In answer to who would want one, well , my wants went away along time ago as I kept a few over the years, I am partial to the solid axle 62 and back and the 63-7's , 68-9's work for me too, after that I have no interest in the cars or the people. A lot of the early drag cars are great, a breakout from the "restorers, matching numbers crowd". A few have become straight axle cars and I salute those with big smiles. The new ones are a work of art for Chevrolet and their engineering, they are a different crowd of people, some do not get dirty or own a wrench but that is their perogative. Mr. Duntov did a lot for Chevy Hi-performance and tradition. In answer to who would want one, well I told you, I like the ones I own, and I like most of the cars I see on the HAMB too! Darts do not bother me as long as they are not in my tires:)CGM

Some of us do. I enjoy many different rides and have respect for most, who take pride in their rides. It's about the fun and enjoyment I get with them all. Enjoy your ride....

I also agree, some of the asking prices on them are just crazy.

Sounds like you should part out your vette and buy one finished

  19. Babbo was sort of a cleaning powder like Comet or Ajax, in one of the Cheech and Chong movies a girl mistakenly snorted it thinking it was Cocaine and she got pretty weird! There were some at that event that I thought may have dabbled in it.:)!

  21. Why? I actually like my work, at least I know what was done and how, and I did not have to hire someone to bankrupt me!

I would. That's why I've had five of them. It's just like wanting a Mustang or a GTO or a Fairlane GT. Same sickness, different label.

Some of the "vintage" parts people at Carlisle think that anything old is made of Gold. They are wrong. It's only cast iron.

I have been attending Corvettes at Carlisle for 19 consecutive years now and I am certain some of the vendors have the same **** now that they had in 1991. It is a weekend away from the wife and as long as you drag the stuff back home with you telling the wife that the bunch of cheap *******s doesn't realize the value of your parts you are cleared to go again next year.

AHAHAAHhahahaha...I wondered if anybody was gonna say something about it.
FWIW, I loved both of my old black 'vettes. I realize some 'vette owners are a bit "eccentric" or sumthun. My kid now has the sickness..sold off his money-pit 944 turbo Porsche to score a really nice blown, 6 speed ZO-6..[565 HP]fastest car I've EVER ridden in and a great road trip car....took it to the HAMB drags this year. Made for a very relaxing weekend with the FM tunage and cool a/c.
