Sad to say but I bet 90% of that ends up at the s****per, wyoming is a long ways from any body, and you can bet that the crusher will be there keeping the minimum bid to $200-400. the best thing we can do is try to get the word out, so somebody besides the crusher gets 'em. pine bluffs is on the nebraska / wyoming border just outside of cheyanne, and a bit northeast of denver.
Several years ago we had a big yard here sell out. I wasn't around then but they figured every car was worth $140 for s**** so that's where they started. Maybe 10% even got the obligatory $140 bid, so most were crushed. It's a sad fact, everyone is alarmed at the rate old cars go to the crusher but who is in any position to save them? You can't really blame the yard owners. They are in the business and most of those cars would set another decade before they returned as much money on sold parts as they will today for s****. A couple weeks ago a s**** iron dealer came by here to pick up a couple vehicles. I ask him if they got into any old stuff. He said they had just crushed a couple hundred 30s-40s cars 2 weeks before.
What a shame, that looks like NICE stuff. ****, a motor/trans and battery in that 57 Ford, scuff and paint! The dry climate even kept the chrome nice!
The site lists another smaller auction for May 31st in Columbus, NE. What's interesting about the Wyoming auction is that most of the cars are fairly complete and not "wrecked" from collisions. It looks like more of a "collection" or "stsh" than an operating wrecking yard where most of the cars would be picked apart. You can see where the owner stacked doors and hoods around and over some of the cars to protect them from the elements-I can almost envision a stop motion film of al the doors getting together to protect a car! Wonder if the property is for sale. If it had a home, it would be a cool deal to just buy the place lock stock and barrel; move in, build a big shop and start picking out your first project from the back 40!!!!!!!
these guys did justthat a few years back. http://www.wyomingcl***iccars.com/ (click on inventory when you get there, lots of great shots)
When I went to school in wyoming me and my friends would spend are weekends going from junkyard to junkyard (ahh the days of 1.00 gas). That area has some of the best old car junkyards anywhere.
I like that 57 Ford..... Last one I found up here I took the differential out through the trunk the car was so bad.
