PAW (Performance Automotive Warehouse) http://www.pawengineparts.com/ For the last week or so I've been trying to get onto their website but it seems to be down. Anybody know the scoop on that? They didn't go out of business did they???? (Sorry in advance if this is not immediately related to hot rods but it's where we've gotten engine parts and gettin ready to do a rebuild on some stuff)
Oh nooo!! I hope not! Was just about to place an order from them. I was wondering the same thing about the web site.
I called them earlier in the week and they said that Thurs. 9/30 was the last day. Its a shame, every engine we built since the 80's was with their parts. Anyone know of another reasonable source?
"Don't bother calling, just got off the phone with them yesterday. They are closing out everything. They have 2 weeks left before they close their doors for good. End of an Era, just one more So Cal speed shop to bite the bullet. " that was Sep 21
Totally! I also think they hold rights to some of the Hemi manifolds out there as well. Could be wrong about that, though.
Remember their adds in Hot Rod in the eighties and nineties? It was like getting the best Sears catalog ever, right in your magazine! ****s to hear they are going away.
You could make your vintage hemi life easy and buy rebuilt 392 crate motors from them too for fairly decent prices. Not anymore I guess. Too bad.
Sad to see. The last show room they had at the warehouse was *****en. Ive been going to them for years.
wow...there were to only ones to sell a cast aluminum early Hemi pan.........Back in 98 or 99 they had complete 392 hemi packages........ never heard much about them....
Yep went their 2 weeks ago and picked up some parts, it was like a ghost town in there, everything in boxes ready to go back to the vendors, i used to go to their shop when it first started 30+ years ago and watched them grow and now this. Summit and jegs are about the last big ones left.
I heard from a Very reliable inside source that they are still going to do the Hemi stuff and maybe other basic engine kits but nothing else. Strictly mail order only is also what I heard.
According to a couple of reps that dealt with them, they just felt is was no longer worth trying to compete with Summit and Jeg's. The rumor is the owner will continue to dabble in the 392 stuff in particular as he has one heck of a collection and does have some proprietary items made.
Well, if that is true, it will be a saving grace to some degree for an appreciated part of their business. Always good to have some options for the old hemi's. Difficult enough as it is. Don't need the vendors that support old hemis going out. Hopefully they can just focus in on that and make it even better.
That just ****s! Another fine aftermarket retailer gone. Beat down by the bigger guys and the economy I suppose.
The crazy part was they couldnt beat Jegs or Summits prices anymore. I knew they were in trouble when they moved the last time and wouldnt be printing anymore catalogs. ****s as they were a local fixture for years.
I quit ordering from them when they sent me a small block Chevy oil pan when I ordered a small block Ford one, then wanted me to eat shipping it back to them AND a restocking fee. I'm glad they are gone. Jegs and Summit have treated me right from the word go. PAW was just a mail order "SuperShops" as far as I am concerned.
It wouldn't hurt my feelings so much if it wasn't for the fact that they were one of very few companies still doing stuff for the odd ball motors...you know....motors other than small block chevy's.....
I have not ordered from them in sometime but they did have the odd items instock and were good to deal with on the phone. Jon
Back in the 90's when I was in high school auto shop, going down to PAW was an exciting field trip. When one of the guy's was ready to buy something we were off!My buddies and I would get the new catalogs and look through it from front to back.We dubbed it "The Bible"
