I have always had a soft spot for T-birds and have always wondered about this car, looks like it started off as a 61 or 62. Does anyone here have any info or pictures of it....
Wow! I havent seen this one before. WOuld like to see more shots of it. I wonder if it is a TBird he built for the Ford Caravan?
I just asked George about it..he said it was called the "styline" and was for AMT and he ended up painting it another color red I believe..AMT used it and made modle kits after it.. I'll see if I can find more shots of it.. They did the same photoshoot with the tangerine metal flake streamline baby seen in the back ground..
Thanks for the info, If you google amt styline it comes up as a completely different model, would definately like to see more pics of it....
dirtybird: There were several AMT Styline kits in early '60s. As I recall, they had common box art, and a small label on the end to seal box and identify which version it contained. Which was also how the regular AMT kits were packaged. Styline kits were touted as "advanced", and contained extra customizing parts with filler putty to blend 'em in. Cost about 50 cents more than regular 3-in-1 kits. I built both the Galaxie and T-bird Styline kits.
Now I have a reason to look at the "model Guys" stuff at the swap meets. I think I need that T-bird kit.
Heres a link to the instructions for the model car http://public.fotki.com/drasticplas...h/instruction_sheets/amt/amt_1961_thunderbir/
Budd "The KAT" Anderson, from AMT Had columns in all the Petersen rod ***les in the sixties, and he drove the wheels off that car!!! Still enjoy reading his prose on the Turnpike and wiring lights to your "Styline" kits!
I'v always liked that car. My dad still has his original box and model that he built back when it came out. If he was closer I'd post some pictures of it.
Here when it was first built... story says car is back in shop for more extensive modifications. Probably the car shown above is the later version.
