Anyone restore an old (30`s I think) Radio Flyer wagon . I need a new hubcap and am wondering about the blue paint . I thought they were all red? Chryco
looking at Wikipedia (if you trust this source) it says most of them were red, but there were a few made in blue for Disney and the Bicentennial. I believe this wagon is made up of different parts from different sources. i would look into pedal car hubcaps... ebay has many offered, but I cannot see how yours attaches to offer a solution. Are yours snap on, or do they have fold over tabs to secure them?
I know the history of the wagon to some point as it was from my Grandparent`s place. I`ve played with it in this form since I was old enough (I`m now 52 Y/O) . From the pics I`ve seen it seem`s 30`s in vin . Not sure of the hub cap mount as the wagon isn`t at my home right now. Just curious of the color scheme, and if original or not . I think it was stripped and repainted some time ago ( 60 -70 yrs ago) . There`s no trace of red paint on it and the graphic on the side looks original. chryco
When my dad was a kid he mounted a twin cylinder maytag on his flyer. Guess I never had a chance growing up not to be a gearhead.
looks like original paint. If it was stripped and repainted 60 years ago grandpa was a real artist to have done the graphics. very cool wagon
My ex-wife collected Radio Flyer wagons. I've posted a couple pics in the thread that is linked above but maybe I can save you a few minutes. I've seen them in several colors besides red. I've seen orange, blue, black, yellow and tan. She had a blue one similar to yours. The wheels are artillery style and the cap has a tab on one side that slides in the wheel and a screw across from it. You can see the screw in the pic I posted. The closest we ever came to nailing down a production date for the above wagon was 1935. This was based on a couple different toy collecting books we saw here and there. The wheels look just like the ones used on the Strek-o-lite from 1933.
