Had a guy stop by the shop today, and we started talking.... Ends up, he wants to sell me a Zephr for 150 bones-I had to try real hard to prevent my eyes from popping out of their sockets! He then went on to say that it wasn't one of the "good" ones from the 30's...my eyes settled down a bit. He went on to say that it runs and drives(we've all heard that before!), is "all there", and he has an extra 4 cyl motor for it. He described it as looking like a mini 57 Chevy(his words, not mine), but I can't check it out until next weekend... Anyone have any pics of what this car would look like(and don't post a pic of some rusted out hulk of a former car, 'cuz that's what I am expecting!) And I'll probably buy it regardless of condition, because someone out there will need a parts car!
Can't post a pic ( don't know how ) But it sounds to me to be an English Ford Zephyr just do a google image search. Hope that helps
Mk 11 Ford Zethyrs were a straight six , Mk 111 they made a Zephyr 4 and a 6 The 4 cylinder mk 11 was called a consul (that's of course if it is the English car in question the mk111 is a different shape )
English Ford Zephyrs and Zodiacs are 6 cylinder. The 4 cylinder is a Ford Consul. Ragtop 50 types faster than me....
Probably the British Zephyr / Consul as a few suggest, Google HENRY HIRISE for a few u-tube fragments of this yellow one.
The mark 3 zephyrs were 4 or 6 cylinder. Check them out here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Zephyr
Assuming that the spare 4 cyl is the same as in the car he's selling [and his description of "mini 57 chevy"] makes this a MK2 Consul The Consul is the same as the Zed car but with a shorter front clip [ butt ugly ] The MK2 & MK3 Zed cars had a reputation in NZ in the 70's as being the "Safest" car around [ more people were conceived in them than killed in them ] the actually contributed to the population growth.
Thanks for the info guys! I don't really want or need the car at all, but am going to buy it anyway before he ends up crushing it out. So, if anybody is looking.... I'll post some pics when I go see it.
mk IV mK III MkIII Estate Mk II Mk II Ute (Australian) MK1 Probably the most American influenced range of cars to be built in England. You may find this link of interest the rebuild of a MK III convertible, http://www.themissy.co.uk/tag/ford-zephyr/
Henry Hirise was based on the four cylinder Consul model, slightly shorter front clip. Take a look at this thread from the UK Rodsnsods website. http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/history-archive/henry-hirise-thread-15288
