Prescott Speed Hill Climb is run by the Bugatti Owners Club, and this weekend they are having an American special event (http://www.prescott-hillclimb.com/october2010.aspx). They invited a few flatheads (including a few HAMBers) and the VHRA along to join in, so here are a few pics from this afternoon: Russ Gaylord Fontana Monkeybiker - Phil ran a best of 62.5 seconds, pretty impressive (the fastest time of the day was just under 50 seconds in a modern circuit race car) Nutrocker Mr. Turnbull Enbloc - Clark ran just under the 70 second mark Biggles in the Batten Special Finally, notice how Clark has managed to index his 'caps perfectly!
Unfortunately I didn't manage to catch a photo of Boz and the Daleks so this'll have to do Neil showing us all how it should be done Clark in his oh so cool Coupe Pete with a big foot before hammering up the hill Mike treating his roadster like he hates it and for those that found the Flatheads to noisey and unsociable there was a small collective of Stanley steam cars ****** brilliant weekend, thanks to the Bugatti Owners Club <!-- google_ad_section_end -->
You guys know how to put off a event. No sitting around in a gr***y field. Run them and run them hard. cool shots
Here are the pics I got on the Saturday before my camera battery took a dump. The venue The sports *******s
What are those two little blue things under the grille of CKR 191? Do you have any other photos or details on that Special? Thanks again for the pictures...nice to see you guys cl***ing up that place. Cris
CKR191 otherwise known by it's owner as Boz. It's a Batten special that Neil Bennett has owned for the last 35 years and I believe has even run at Brooklands. It's got an H&H built Flathead Ford, triple carb'd and ****** quick, Boz has run a 14.7sec 1/4. The two blue things below the rad are Samco hoses running from the rad to the water pumps. A liitle more information on the car can be found on the Flathead Meltdown website http://www.flatheadmeltdown.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=51&Itemid=55&Itemid=55
WOW! What a great collection of photos, thank you for posting them. First time I've seen a Stanley with disk brakes added to the front wheels. That full fendered black A Roadster, Black Bugatti GP car and the Black HMW are my top three picks..........ok the black Lotus 11 is another winner.
Well - still not recovered from the weekend, driving 200 miles down there through sheet rain on the Friday, racing all Saturday, partying all night and then driving back through more continuous rain... Haven't had time to look at my pictures yet! Absolutely awesome time. One for the long term memories that one.
The coolest thing - aside from Enblocs coupe - is the venue. What is the story on that track? Is it a vintage race track from the old days, or some rich guy's private track on his estate, or what? Just great to see something like that still exists. I'd give my left nut to be able to flog my supermoto bike around that for a few hours.
Prescott is owned and run by the Bugatti Owners club (BOC) who bought the estate in 1937. They converted the mud drive to the house into the track it now is ready for the opening rally in 1938. I have to say it's a chalenging track to drive with some parts, namely the last bend, not having any guard rail, with only 12 inches or so of gr*** as a run off then it's 50 foot of 45 degree slope wet gr***. Great fun though. Pete
Thanks for the info on that very cool track. Also interesting that the BOC has been around since the 30s
