Hey All, After being at the Wonderful Showcase of Kustoms show and seeing the Incredible Kustoms. It got me thinking. I couldnt help but notice a few of the cars looked like they have never been driven ( I know the cars had to be able to start, move forward, turn left, right back up and stop ) BUT some of the headers on those cars looked better than my headers when they were new. (Dont know how they did that). I know this is the case at Most Shows not singling out SOK. While my car is getting close to being finished my intention is for it to be a daily driver. I've over built my motor, keeping windshield wipers, and even adding weather stripping. <V</V<O</O <O</O I was wondering if you fine Folks would mind posting pictures of the cars that lets say drive at least 3000 miles a year that have won shows.. On a side note, I think it would be great if one of the most prestigious awards at GNRS, <?xml:namespace prefix = u1 /><u1:City u2:st="on"><U1<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com</st1:City><ST1Santa Maria</U1</u1:City></ST1 or SOK would be the car driven x amount of miles per year and could be proven by having HAMBers who attest to the cars being driven. We are all over the place and it shouldnt be difficult. I am more impressed with the guys who work on their own cars and keep them looking great and driving them. I'll drive mine, but I don't work on mine so I'm out... Just a thought..<O</O <O</O ***This guy drove this car from <st1:State w:st="on"><ST1Arizona</ST1</st1:State> and it was absolutely beautiful. It was also great to see him up on stage for the De Elegance Award with the cars that have never driven more than the few hundred feet to their trailers.. Thanks to Bad Bob for the image***
I built my caddy, and drive the wheels off it, is'nt that what your supposed to do? the first year out i won starbirds custom d' ellogence award, best paint, kkoa choice and hall of fame choice, in kansas and oklahoma. then in santa maria i got the satan's angles pick. all of which I am very proud of . I drove this car to every event and to detroit for the cavalcade of kustoms in 09. In the winter I might add, It CAN and should be done this way. heres a few picks after the drive to cali last summer.
I drove mine 12,000 miles in three months and it actually racked up a little hardware......i guess I should have washed it more
I drive mine to work 3 or 4 times a week, gets about 7k miles a year put on it, im always flattered when it is reconized at a show.
Built mine to drive.. Got in done it late August, driven to one out of state show, and a couple other instate shows that were a decent drive. Will be driving it to the Pileup in a couple weeks which is about a 6 hour drive. Won best custom with it at the Relix Riot this past weekend..
Fink, Musico, and Chopd Beautiful cars guys.. I agree with you Fink the cars should be driven to the shows. I' had a conversation with Gene Winfield, and Mike Alexander at the SoCal Speed SHop show before LARS, and they were talking about how they drove their cars to the shows. It was unheard of to trailer a car. We were looking at a Merc that was delivired on a trailer, and the thing wouldnt even start. I do believe there is a place for the cars that are prestine, never driven or can't be driven because they're so radical, but I do not believe they should be rewarded any more than the guy who drives his car on a somewhat regular basis.. just my .02. *** These cars according to their owners have never seen a trailer.Multiple show winners.. Gotta Love it*****
Believe it or not, this car won 4 shows in the Seattle area in 1952. Mainly because it was the fastest street machine in the state at the time. 136.77 at Bonneville. Driven to work every day.
My Merc is my daily driver,at least it was until I got the truck. It won Best of Show at the Antique Nationals 2009,even thought there were much nicer cars there. Mine is a driver,NOT a show car at all. Road rash, interior's not done, worn paint, but it suits me just fine... It will get a make-over someday.
BAd Bob. true, I used the term "daily" just to mean a car thats driven on occasion, thats why I sad at least 3000 miles a year, some of those cars I doubt if they see 300 miles a year or in their life time...
I just drove this 4845 miles round-trip over the Continental Divide (11,158 feet elevation) from San Diego to Indianapolis and back, last week.... It's won a few awards. Does this count?
I drive my Blue 53 everyday and drove my green 53 everyday for years. My blue 53 won the Jimmie Vaughan Pick and my green 53 won the Custom Rodder Magazine pick in Austin.
on my way home from work on a friday, I picked up a trophie from Garden Grove Car Show in the "T". I got a another one from SAKO's on the way home from work in the "T"
