OK guys, I have a virgin '32 Ford dash and have never used it because I didn't want to cut it. Now I have a project ('29 Coupe) that I want to put it in and an old dash insert that I want to use, but to use it will require cutting holes in the dash. I do have a plan B that requires no cutting but its not as cool. Any opinions would be great. To Cut or Not to Cut? Thanks in advance, Michael
You could sell it and buy a repop by Brookville that is made to fit the A body. There are two of then on eBay right now starting at $119.00
I think it'll really help set the mood for the car. So far it looks like I'll be cutting it. Thanks folks.
If you are confident in your cutting & welding skills, I don't see a problem. if your afraid the idea might not work out or something, then buy a repop. Yeah.
I say don't cut it. When you can get a steel repop cheap why not use it? Besides, the second you cut it you'll find a smokin' deal on a 32 survivor that just needs a dash...
Two opinions ... 1 ) From a financial stand point BUY a repro ( or two ) and sell the original and have $$$ left over 2 ) From a Hot Rodder standpoint CUT IT !! On my 32 3W dash, I debated cutting the holes for the A/C vents ... After about 2 months I decided to go for it. I did not want any BROOKVILLE reproduction pieces on my 3W ... so I had to cut it. 32 Ford dashes look GREAT with a panel added IMHO
I think it depends on the kind of car you're building. If it's going to be built from entirely old original parts, a period car, then cut it up and use it with pride. If you're going to be using repro stuff or modern components in other areas of the build, then it makes sense to flip it and use a repro dash. My opinion...
If you sell it it will only be stuck to a wall. Cut it.. And you will alwaws know that you have no repop stuff on your hot rod. Unless your going to use repop stuff on it someware else. If so, then sell it..
OK guys, I'm not using any REPRO parts on this car and it will be a mid '40's ('46) period car. After reading all the opinions, I've decided to go with plan B an not cut it. I'm going to use a brass panel fitted with mid-50's (about the only thing not 40's) SW gauges. Thanks for the pics and help folks, Later. Michael
