bad joke now that i look back....
i was in the shop under the lift, going to put a new gasket on the transmission... it was in a jeep CJ.. you have to take the skid plate off to get to it and it's contoured to fit up around the trans. i didn't realize the plate would be full of trans fluid and when i unbolted it, "red" trans fluid poured down on my arm to my shoulder.. i thought, hmmmmm this could be fun.. i went to the back door, held my arm, slid open the door, wife sitting there watching tv and said i need some help.... yikes, i've never seen her move so fast in her life.. i started laughing, and she was pissed....
yes, safety is job 1 when in the shop.....

  3. You are one brave, silly ******* . . . if I did that, there would be REAL blood flowing from my recent castration . . .

  4. Years ago the State of Vermont had a program for women to get them into jobs traditionally performed by men. They were not supposed to do any work w/power tools unless a supervisor was watching them.
There were a group of them re-habbing a house and one woman (who didnt need anybody watching her:rolleyes:) was cutting a hole w/a circular saw for a heat duct in the floor.
When you are cutting a hole in a flat surface w/a circular saw,you 1st set the front plate of the saw on the floor then gradually lower the blade into the wood.
She didnt do that. She put the running saw on the floor blade 1st at which time the saw flew up and the blade cut the femoral artery in her right leg.

First off , glad to hear you are ok ! i would go get that shot if you haven't for a while . I think the regular Dr can do that so you don't get taken for a ride at the hospital waiting for 8 hours just to pay thru the nose for the shot .
I have the same problem . I am always by myself when working on my cars unless the wife is home from work . If something would go wrong I would be in real trouble because there is no one home around me if I started yelling for help ! I have gotten hurt many times and some of them I should have gone to the hospital but can't afford it or the damn wait . It's sad that we use to just call our Dr and he would either come over to the house to fix you up or he would do it at his office . Those days are gone !
Anyway just be careful and if something does go wrong make sure you have a cell phone next to you in case you need it .

Always have a cell phone handy. A friend fell off a ladder at the garage where he kept his car and broke a leg! If it wasn't for his phone , he may still laying there.

Yeah, I can appreciate the advice now. I was drilling a hole in some thin sheet metal with a drill press and hole saw. I had thick leather gloves on. The cutter dug in and the metal spun out of my hand cutting right through the glove on my left hand. Sliced open the index finger really good and I needed to get it s***ched up. That was five months ago and I still have numbness in that finger. It drives me crazy when I am in a tight place trying to thread a nut onto a bolt and I can't feel it.

yep...... and she still puts up with me after 36 years of marriage

  9. I work alone too. Always try to be as careful as possible. Sometimes just getting out from under the car and standing up can be a challenge at this stage of the game. ;) Even with 8 jack stands and jacks at both ends I get a little nervous under the car. :(
I used to motorcycle tour sole a lot when I was younger. Had a few close calls out in the boonies. This is BC(Before Cell phones). Always wondered if anyone would even find you for a few days if something dire happened.:(
Yep you can never be too safe.

had a cousin killed when the jackstands he had under the station wagon he was working on alone failed. safety on top of safety is always good

  12. I cant even fathom how flexible and stupid you have to be to pull that off!?

  13. Heck I'm supergluing a fingernail that I shut in the door of my van like 2 months ago while the new one grows out under it - it's just attached enough it will be messy to peel off and with all the nerve endings in there it would hurt like a *******, too.

But I won't work on cars where I have to go under them or anything out at the farm, unless it's an emergency repair, I'm too worried about one falling on me and with my friend not always there and even when he is he might not realize I'm stuck for hours... not something I want to have happen to me.
