**Picking Up A New Project This Week**

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Arrowood Rod & Kustom, Oct 4, 2010.

  1. Going to be picking up a new project this week, it's a 1955 Buick Special..in pretty decent shape besides some rust in the rockers and a few small spots in the floor..runs & sounds good but brakes don't work..owner thinks it needs a new master cylinder, car had been sitting in an old ladys barn for last 20 years

Any ideas or plans for it yet?

  3. -Fix the rust spots
    -Fix the brake problem
    -Clean up the engine bay
-Clean up the white walls but probably buy some new Cokers with smoothie wheels and bullet centers
    -Air Ride Suspension
    -Clean up the interior
-Paint job, undecided on a color right now

and that'll probably be all for now besides looking for replacement bumpers that are in decent shape..that will probably be cheaper than re-chroming these ones

A friend of mine had one of those in HS, I did some (amateur) body work on it. I remember acres of sheetmetal, and about 4 layers of front bumper/grille stuff, any one of which would p*** for a bumper these days. After I was done, I drove it back to his house. Naturally the brakes went out on the trip, man that car just kept rolling...and rolling...and rolling, didn't think it would ever stop. Turned out the brake lines were rusted, it sprung a leak, and...no more brakes. I eventually managed to limp it the rest of the way to his house, and got it safely parked...in the middle of his yard. I was just happy I didn't hit the garage. His driveway had a nice downhill grade to it, with the garage at the bottom.

That looks like a great car.

  8. I'm happy with it always thought these cars had a lot of style and you don't have to do much to them to make them look good, now I just have to wait two more days and I can go pick it up and get to work on it

It even comes with fuzzy dice? YOu don't need to fix a thing with those hangin' in there. Rust, who cares?! Brakes, who needs 'em?! Shiny chrome, over-rated! Man those dice got to stink like ***, being in there that long. Post 'em in the cl***ifieds and pay for your build with the profits! Those things are VINTAGE!

Sorry, crying baby brings out the sarcasm, looks like a solid start, be sure to post updates!

  10. haha yeah I asked the guy if he put them in or if they were in there when he bought the car from the old lady he said they've been hanging in the car for over 30 years

defiantly will post updates..I'm busy this weekend with work and then my universitys homecoming football game but the following weekend I plan to spend some long nights working on it!

  11. finally got the car to my shop a few days ago, not much for an update I started to cut the rust out of the rockers and that was about all I've done so far due to distractions, hope to get all the rust cut out of the body, floor & trunk..weld in new patches and lay down "FatMat" on the floor this weekend..if anyone has suggestions on how to clean up these bumpers & tail lights to look somewhat presentable please let me know..can't afford to have them re-chromed right now
