yeah..he's been doing a hell of a job. I think the frame started out from an International or something similar..the cab needed lots of metal replacement. He chopped it. slanted the posts, channelled it...etc....lots of work so far. I think it sits just right.

Thanks for the compliments guys and thanks to Hardtop for posting. I've been a bit reluctant to post up another "Rudy" and my being "picture challenged" doesn't help. With a little luck I'm hoping to have the truck ready for Pa. inspection next week. There's a rush on to get it to Wildwood for the Fall Boardwalk Nats.

As a rundown, I took a 50 or so GMC 3/4 ton frame and used it as a starting point. The frame is swept Z'd and narrowed and sectioned on both ends with the center under the cab boxed and trussed to allow the body to sit right. The stance is very low and the truck is not channelled at all. There is a 4 1/2 inch chop. I have the windshield S-10 rubbered in until I can get a mint windshield frame. The motor thats in is being swapped out soon for a roller cammed, six two 331 Chevy. I have the 383 in until the bored 327 is finished. The 9" rear is hung on a pair of fabbed '36 style bones the design of which I stole off of another thread here. I'm putting a very nice '34 p***enger shell on it with a set of very mint '36 headlights, both HAMB finds, most likely this weekend. There is an aluminum hood with about 120 old style punches on the way, (Hardtop doesn't know it yet but he has a winter project!), and the color is '57 Chevy Sierra Gold, a very bronze color you can see a little bit of on the wheels. I have some white naugahyde I've been saving for about 5 years that will wrap the Glide seat. Like I said the truck isn't channelled and has a ton of room inside. With the Moon wheel and some other cool appointments inside it's 1960 all over again.
I really built the truck as a tow vehicle for my two wheel trailer and the 1958 Ch***is Engineering FED I've been working on for at least two eons now. This is the kind of stuff I saw at my Dads shop in the late '50's early sixties. Some of the stuff may be a bit goofy like the '39 spring ahead front end and undropped but drilled Henry axle, but it's the kind of stuff I used to see all the time back then.
I purposly left the truck just a little rough around the edges just because thats the way I remember 'em.

I'll keep you guys posted on progress over the next two or three weeks and hopefully we'll have some cool Wildwood shots to post.

I've got to add, It doesn't look anything like the '35 cab Hardtop and I dragged out of 1oldrat's back lot a few months ago. I was going to use another cab that Sneakypete has now, but when the '35 cab became available I couldn't resist. Everything done so far was accomplished in about 12 weeks. Not too shabby for an old guy. It's amazing how good you can work under pressure!

Nice job as usual, Koz. And those hubcap are keepers (unless you want to get rid of them to me).

Just my opinion but that panel below the bed and between the cab and wheel is just screeming for louvers. On the side shot, the headers and the dump tube run nicely with the cab lines....NICE WORK!

I agree 117harv! When I did the panels I thought I was going to bring stacks up the outside but your absolutly right, I do need to punch that area.

Gotta tell you guys, I was a little reluctant to build a truck at first being basicly a roadster kinda guy. But now that I'm into it, this things getting better all the time. I just love it. Anybody who's been over and sat in it will attest the seat is just perfect, (Glide), one of the few things I dropped any serious cash on, but worth every dime and considerably better than the Walmart lawn chair cushions in my red roadster. I don't have to look under or over the windshield. Driver field of vision is excellent and although just a bit snug, the interior has plenty of space for two. I really want to put some major miles on this so I used the 400 Auto which is also a change for me. I'll make Florida or the west coast a lot easier with windows, roof and tunes. And of course, you can't beat the price of admission to this show. Let's face it, truck cabs are dirt cheap compared to even a gl*** deuce. The frame required a lot of work but cost only $25! I'm trying to find some shots of it without the body on becase it's about the neatest part of the truck. The best thing about the whole project is it might, if you squint real hard, p*** as a survivor. The highest complement would be if someone at a car show tells there friends about how they used to see this thing parked at the Texaco back in '60. The only giveaway as to it's lack of pedigree is the fabbed bed which I'm working on dating a bit. All my other cars were just a bit too "Street Roddish" and just didn't make me feel as warm and fuzzy as this one. The addition of the Buick brakes, front and rear, is gonna make it just that much better.

Hardtop57 has just helped me out super big time by getting a neat old 6x2 setup for me, along with some killer valve covers. They are going to do wonders for Mr. Peabody's way back machine, (Rockey and Bullwinkle for you yougsters).

Thanks for the encouragement everybody and post up any suggestions, I'm always open to new ideas.

It's not supposed to be comfortable, i.e. heavily chopped rides, rigid choppers or womens high heels if it's painful it looks cool. Ok, ok it can be comfortable and cool with a little restraint and well thought out design.

I popped the valve covers on today and what a difference! It just changed the whole character of the beast. I started to block out the body and boy does it look good even in primer. With a bunch of time this winter it should look really good by spring. I'm shooting for its' deb' ball at the Violators. A ton of vintage parts have been coming in thanks to Hardtop57, Fryguy, and SneakyPete. I'm amazed at how much of this stuff is still out there.

I went to look at another lathe tonight as I miss mine badly, (stupidly sold last winter, not one of my brighter moves). This will open up a ton of possibilities, primarily the machine work to properly install the Buick brakes both front and rear, using all the Buick guts and backing plates with finned drums front and rear.

Dumb *** primers starting to grow on me.
