I'm helping a buddy of mine get his roadster build going. He has a fiberglass T-bucket he bought cheap but has plans to find a steel bucket in the future. I'm looking for frame ideas(2"x3" tube) and any if if you guys can help. He is not very computer savy so any help is great.he is looking to go LOW to the ground and LOW $$$$$

Here are the parts he has so far:

    -fiberglass bucket:eek:,3" channel,no doors
    -283 SBC/powerglide
    -9" rear
    -Speedway front end,4" drop axle,hair pins,spring behind
    -F-100 front brakes
    -vega box
    -Posie's Superslide Ford 35-36 rear spring,2 1/2" drop,47.5" perch center
-Speedway 35-36 axle to spring mounts and shackles
-Speedway 32" hair pins for the rear

This is what he is planning it to look similar too.

I would study carefully any LOW frame setup that includes the Vega or Vair box w/a pitman arm. (Assuming he likes to steer!)

Look into scrub line geometry...then plan VERY carefully, if you are having the front wishbone mounted spring etc...there is much to consider and design here!

I should have gave some more info,he wants it low but not as extreme as the pictures. He wants it to be a driver not a novelty car.

Sorry, deleted post because you have to be a member to that forum to view pics. Contact dodgerodder here on the HAMB. The car belongs to his dad.

    Hey,
For looks 1.5 inch by 3 inch looks a lot sleeker, it is what Speedway makes their frames out of, .120 inch wall. If you think that someday you will put a big block in it, you may want to use 2 x 4 tubing and cut a taper from the firewall forward. Where does he want the front wheels, suicide frontend with the wheels way ahead of the radiator?
The parts he has are a very good start. Yoou may want to do a mock up, to pick your ride height and rake.

The dodge in the first post was driven, I am a witness. Tulare, CA. to Pomona, CA. and back. 500 mi round trip. The builder of that car is a friend and has a shop in Tulare. He sells engineered frames like what you want. www.bolingbrothers.com He is a great guy and would probably help you out. His HAMB name is deek. My point is you guys can get it on the ground and still make it safe. good luck

I'm using 40mm x 80mm for mine, about 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" in real money. I used cheap used box section, to save a buck, but would have been better laying out the extra green for raw steel. I have no 'chassis plans', just what is in my head, guesstimated by what parts I was using.

Luckily, the floor of my mini-shop is dead flat, so it became my life size drawing board. :D

I have a 'glass body too, not many steel ones laying about round my way.

The square links are temporary, to be replaced with heim joints and round tube eventually.

I talked to Derrek @ Boling Bro's and I'm going to go with one of his modified frames. He sounds like a really cool guy and will go out of his way to get the job done right.I'm not going to go quite as low as his 22 Dodge modified but very similar with a little rake to it. The body is channeled 3" so it should sit nice a low with a Boling frame. I picked up some Coker/Firestone black walls,5.60-15 fronts and 8.20-15 rears so that should help with the rake
