I love sixes, had 'em with singles, duals, trips, and single four barrels, and always with twice pipes as they say in South Texas. The question that prompted me to join this forum is: Does anybody know about the H/MP '54 Corvette "Apricot Brandy". What motor family (235-261 or 194-292) did it run? I have never seen a magazine article on it, and have only found two photos of it on the 'net. In these photos I spy an off center scoop, making me think he was a true Stovebolt (you know the best Chevy motors always had but a single valve cover!). Any info would be appreciated.
Welcome to the H.A.M.B. Cool - I love the 6's too. I just swapped a pumped up 235 for a weak 216. We are about to rebuild to 235 in a 50 Chev Truck too. Sorry,...no info on the stuff you asked about but this is the place to try and find it.
Can't give you much tech info, but I remember the car. 53/54 corvette, it was run in the late 60s/early 70s at Kil-Kare dragstrip in Xenia, Ohio every week. The owner was named Jimmy Elliot. It ran a blue streak 6. I believe it ran multiple weber carbs, so it had an offset prostock type scoop. I would love to see the pics that you found of it.
Here's a link to a pic from the Bill Floyd collection; http://public.fotki.com/mastermodel...g-cars-by-contri/bill-redman-floyd-c/629.html
Sure brings back memories of the old racing days at Kil-Kare! the short guy next to the woman with the big hair is little Jimmy Elliot, the original owner. the way I remember it was with a homemade pro stock type scoop, though. I believe back then he ran in a gas cl*** with it.
Hey, welcome to the HAMB ... always room for another inliner. Don't have a clue about your Corvette question, but that car sure is pretty! The '53 and '54 'vettes were the only ones I ever got real excited about. As for sk_rodz statement: WHAT big hair ....???? That ain't big hair! You evidently never spent much time hangin' in a Mississippi Wal-Mart on the weekend. That's big hair ...(and Sunday-go-to-meetin' flip-flops too!)
I really don'have a lot of info on this vette but I knew Jimmy Elliot. He worked at a Pontiac dealership in Hamilton, Oh. He was always into Chevy and GMC 6 bangers. He and his buddy, Russ Brown, used to rent my Mom's garage to work on a dirt track car that Russ drove. Never did see the vette in the garage but Jimmy had a super sharp 51 Chevy that would really scoot! As I remember it, Jimmy had some vision problems. I know he was very popular at all the locals strips and somewhere I have a magazine with pictures of the car at the Gator nationals in Gainesville Fla. I will try to locate it.
