Someone posted a diagram of a shouldered bearing with set screws here just within the past couple weeks.

It was a specification drawing with a part number.

I have searched high and low and can't find it. I really have to learn to copy something or save it as soon as I see it.

Things get buried deep in the maze of the forum here so easily. Then try to find them

Good to have an active forum, but at times it is too much.

This just pisses me off to no end. I searched and searched again tonight , I used bearing, and mc master carr (it was a mc master carr bearing specification drawing) and no way can I find the thread or the post.

I used every search keyword I could think of, no way !

This just amazes me, next time I will click and save

I think if there is a downside to the HAMB forum, this is it. A lot of good information just gets lost in the "maze" so to speak.

I try to notice any thread like that with tech... I just know I never saw it. Was it buried in a build thread?

I think I would have seen it if the ***le had "column" or "flange bearing" in it.

At this point I think it just popped up in a thread randomly and that's why I can't find it.

Just a quick question,, are you talking about the bearing that goes on the bottom end to help hold the shaft in line if you've cut it from the box or the bearing under the steering wheel?

  7. i get them at my local hardware store , they are in the fasteners area. i believe they made for wheel barrow wheels

The bottom. I guess if I was to search Mc Master carr I could find it on their website.

It was neat in that it had a 1 3/4" diameter outer size with a shoulder that would locate it in the bottom of the column as well as a shoulder or sleeve on the 3/4" diameter inside race with set screws to hold the shaft.

Looked like it would be perfect for the bottom bearing on a shortened column with the set screws to hold the steering shaft in place so it would'nt slide up or down.

I thought that was the one you were talking about, the street rod shop here where i live sells them and i know i've seen them in some books. if you like i'll look and see if i can find it for you if not let me know what size you need and i could buy you one and ship it to you.

Same as 36-3Window....Wheel Barrow bearings, then I turn a bushing to fit the column.

    Another option for set screw holding but with hardware store parts;

Flange bearing held up by a spring with a collar that has a set screw.

The spring idea was GM, not mine...I just copied :)

I just went to my local bearing service store and bought 2, 1-11/16" OD x .750" ID sealed bearings and put them in my 1-3/4" OD tube for my column, on in one end the other in the other end, and ...Next!

    cost me 30 bucks
