What's the scoop on their u-joints? Are they any good? Manufactured by "Sweet Mfg." -never heard of them before... But Speedway seem to be the only place I could find a joint for 3/4"-48 to 3/4"-DD to work with my Jag rack. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Steering-U-Joints-3-4-48-Spline-Wilwood-Sweet-Jaguar-MGB,31390.html Maybe you guys know of somewhere else that will have this joint? Borgeson, etc.?
Sweet makes mostly roundy round steering products, its seems to be pretty good stuff as i've used the u-joints.
Here ya lazy bum. Even has the word billet right in the description....... And yeah, Sweet makes race stuff like he said. Thank me later. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLA-FR1728DD/
The other big uni joint brand names make the Jag piece you are after, I've used them. Rag joint ONLY for the job of taking harshness/vibrations out of the steering, especially power steering, NEVER for misalignment issues. There was a thread about exactly this a month or so back. Newer cars and the aftermarket use the linear rubber sleeve version for this job these days mostly.
So can anyone tell me why I would want to use a vibration reducer....like Borgeson sells, over the OEM style rag joint? I had someone tell me they totaled their car because of a faulty rag joint and said I should use the Borgeson style. But then again GM's been using the rag joint forever. I'm just learning about all this stuff. So educate me........
When I was building ch***is components for Howe Racing, Randy Sweet was starting to develope a rack and pinion steering for oval track cars. He was also driving a Howe car himself at the time and used his and other Howe cars to prototype his products. Sweet products ended up on just about every compe***ive stock car in the mid-west at the time and most of those cars came out of Howe Racing enterprises. After ripping off most of Howe's development work a couple of companies competing with Howe emerged as challengers to Howe's dominance. When I left Howe as a supplier (due to being involved in a near death accident) my shop had built enough roll cages, rear frame sections, a-frames and sway bars to ***emble over 3500 race cars. Sweet products are more than up to the task of any street driven vehicle so buy with confidence. Frank
