    Your understanding is correct.
The original Judkins Pinto only raced as "2x" for the tail-end of the '71 season. Gene Bergin was its first driver, as Flemke, whom Judkins had first asked to drive it, wanted to fulfill his commitment to drive another car for all of that '71 season (may have been the Mills-Welch 79).
At the end of '71, Judkins sold the car to Vigliarolo, in order to build a new Pinto. For the first half of '72, whilst Judkins' new car was under construction, Flemke drove the original car, now numbered "34". In the 34, Flemke was often dominant against the best fields in the Northeast - car and driver were a devastating combination.
When the second 2x was finished in mid-'72, Flemke switched to it, whilst continuing to ***ist Vigliarolo whenever he could.
Frank drove the 34 for the balance of '72 and, if I recall correctly, some of '73 as well. He did not appear to be a natural racer. He often struggled to compete at that level, but one respected him for trying.

Now, from this corner as well, the same request: could you please show us all the Flemke images that you posted yesterday that were for some reason deleted or blocked? Please?

  2. He most likely reached his limit of photos for that account, he has to buy an account or make a new one under a different name. I pay a year fee for photobucket. I'll be posting photos again soon.....busy end of racing season!

    JBull,
That pic of Gene Bergin (post #6797) from Trenton in 1972 jogged a memory. If I remember right, he got into that ROC by winning the non-qualifiers race and then as your pic says, ended up 2nd. Heck of a drive, if I'm remembering correctly....and I think I am.

I believe the Whelan's are IMCA type modifieds at Roseville. My #92 car (37 Chevy) is the only east coast car that ran there this year, it runs with the super modifieds. It is to low and my tires are to wide to run with the Norcal Hardtops (I refuse to put on skinny tires and raise it up!).

I actually paid for an unlimited pro account through 2012 over the summer in photobucket. I lost some Baldwin pics a while back because I moved the folder because it was a subfolder. I didn't realize it would remove my posts. I'll have to check back at my other posts as I did some other clean-up as well. I just modified the ***le on my Flemke folder so I do not know why that would have broke the link or caused the pictures to be deleted. AHRGGGGG! Live and learn. I will try to repost the pictures soon.

One good thing came of this, at least I know people are looking at the pics, so I will continue to spend the time scanning, cropping and posting.

Thanks to all those who chime in with additional info, corrections, and clarifications on the photos.

I agree with Barry, in that the "west coast Whelen cars" are more IMCA type modifieds, rather than the cars we easterners call "modifieds". Therefore, you're not apt to see anybody from the east coast travel out west to race, both due the difference in cars/rules, plus the small fortune it would cost just to tow out there.

If my memory is correct, the furthest west the "NASCAR Modified" gang went was to Indianapolis Raceway park, a number of years ago...

I believe it was 1988 and 1989 that we had the modifieds at IRP. McLaughlin won both years.

"Renter", are the modifieds that you posted the link to GM metric ch***is based, or "fabbed" ch***is, like the NASCAR mods?

Hey there joeRacer, the #15 may be Freddie DeSarro. He drove the # 15 'til spring of 1971 & I'm not positive but I think that's a 1970 photo. That's when **** Clark came out with his coach. Someone correct me as I may be wrong
