Here are some photos of a full rebuild done on a 454 motor from a 71 Corvette. The entire step by step article with something like 220 Pictures. http://restorecarsfast.com/enginerebuild/
Very good article, I've put a few big block together and was always pleased with the performance, used that same book too, its a little dated being there are a lot more aftermarket parts available now but a very useful book. I once was building a Hi perf motor and had the machine work done at a reputel engine shop, I thought Id have them ***emble it being their the pro's. when I got it home I was inspecting it and found just a tiny bit of movement on the rods around the crank, not end play I mean side to side, so i pulled a cap and plastigaged it. didnt even touch the plastigage, my crank was .10 or .20 under and told him that ahead of time, found out he had his son who was a newb and didnt bother to measure it. I stood there as the owner balled the **** outta him right in front of me.
