Can anyone tell me what the first 2 #s or letters are of a 1934 Ford. On the web I saw 18, and it said that for 32 as well- but I am used to seeing AB or B.??????Help
http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_serialnumbers.htm that would be "star" 18-....... "star" Mike
Virtually all would be 18 prefix--the few four cylinder '34's would, I believe, have B numbers. '32 V8's were 18 (roughly 1-250,000), fours were AB (early) and B. The 18 prefix was used for all 221 serials up through WWII.
The frame number on my '34 starts with the letter "I", not the numeral "1". It is clearly an I, not a 1 My VIN is "star" I*-1166........"star"
Is the car Canadian? Do you find the letter "C" in front of cast or forged part numbers here and there? Canadian cars were numbered in short blocks of numbers, each with a preface to distinguish it--don't know any details, so is the number part of yors around the 1 million mark, or is it a shorter number? Bruce
I've seen "I" substituted for the "1". I suspect that some number/letter sets did not contain a "1" (manual typewriters use lower case "L" for "1"). Or perhaps the stamper wore out or misplaced the "1" stamp. Or, maybe, just maybe, I'm all wet Also, I have a block (non-factory?) stamped "99T" were the "T" is made up of two "I" marks. Mike
Yea, but the next two digits are, each, the NUMBER "1" It's really interesting that the prefix uses a capital "I" yet the third and fourth digits are, actually, the number "1". Ones and i's are mixed into the serial num, ber. Methinks the "stars" at the ends and the I8 were stamped ahead of time and the sequential serial number was stamped at a later time on the production line. Go figure.
heres a another one for ya, my 34 roadster vin strats with B,C,S six digits after that and its stamped on the right frame rail and it reggy and titled in B.C CANADA since the forties been in my family since the fifties
