Without going into a big long explanation, I need to put 47-51 chevy truck doors on a 53 cab. The doors are the same and all but the latches are different. So are the strikers.

Do any of you know if 52-54 latches will bolt into 47-51 doors? Or do you have any other suggestions? I want to run the older doors because they are in phenomenal shape and do not have the wing vents. I'm running the cab because it's the only one I have.

Not real familiar with 53 cabs, i was suprised to hear that they have different latches.
But the door sizes and cab sizes are exactly the same.
The old farmers used to switch the doors on these trucks to get the vent wing. I'm sure you shouldnt have too much of a problem switching them.
Check to make sure the offset areas in the area of the latches are the same size. Good luck

  3. Nope. The latches have a different hole pattern or different number of screws--I forget....anyway, they don't interchange--plus the early handles won't interface with the later latches & vice-versa.
I had a pair of each to paint last winter---painted each set the wrong color(thanks to the owner, who told me which were what color:rolleyes:) We looked at switching hardware--no go.
I think what you gotta do is change the strikers in the jamb---but I'm not 1000% sure without goin out back and looking at what I have(a 50 and a 55 1st series)

yeah, I think they'll switch vice versa of what I want to do. Actually I know they will, however it doesn't look too good going old doors, newer cab.

I considered ditching the whole works and setting up bear claws in there but I dunno if that'd be worth the trouble or if they'd be halfway decent compared to stock.

47-51 strikers won't work either. At least not without modifying the jam. The recess where the striker dips in is alot shallower on a 53 than a 47-51.

I was thinking of running one piece door gl*** in my 55 Chevy 1st series... I also have a 48 GMC 1-1/2 ton. Since the doors on the 48 are in better shape rust wise, I was thinking of swapping the doors...The door handles are different types as well. The 55 has push ****ons the 48 twists. Now I am going to look into changing the regulators and frames to one piece instead.
