Zed. Really nice work, paint is beautiful..

Heres my contribution for this week. The surfers dragster.

heres what I have so far.

the ch***is is 157" which is what Tom has told me the length. Built from evergreen rod and tubing...

Built the body, fuel tank and seat pan out sheet styrene added a few more tubes to the ch***is and wound up using the cowl from a old cobbled garlits FE rail. Building the frontend and wheels next.
    Thanks for looking

    Another stunner from Zed!

  15. Damn Zed, you are the paint master! Once again you're work just blows me away, now tell us the truth.
Are you channeling the great painters??

TxRat, that is looking nice! Can I ask what scale it it? Building tube ch***is is part of a build I think I enjoy the most.

Once again, and as usual nothing from me this week. May have something for next week though.....................I hope.................

    Doc,

Thanks. I built front axles and other parts from br*** quite often.Yours looks great

  25. Jeez Splinter, I dunno' about that but thanks!

TxRat, thanks. Don't get me wrong your ch***is is great. It was just an 'evolution' going to br***, also makes it a HELL of a lot less fragile!!

Check this out in 1/32 scale, its less than 4 1/2 inches long!

You should show the solder flux jar instead of the enamel jar-that's the only way I know of to get solder to flow that well!!! (P.S.-I'm going br*** tube shopping tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!)

  27. No worries, yeah I use a liquid flux for the solder. All my tube is cut with a Dremel and a cut off wheel, its easy to then notch the tube with it as well. I also use some of those small needle files for fine fitting the tube, the better the fit the easier it is!
I tried using a 'Third hand' for a soldering jig but they are no good, I use everything from small 'Cleco' paper clamps, blue tack (Only if that area isn't getting hot!!) squares of steel, anything!!

My soldering iron is a cheapy 40watt from **** Smith, I like to use non rosin core solder as the rosin is a ***** to clean off latter. Normal soldering prep, ie; clean, tin then solder.
I want to try one of those butane torches but a decent one is expensive and is out of the budget.
The br*** I use is K&S and Albion Alloys, both from the local hobby shop. Get ready for a shock in the price though!!
One of the best things I ever invested in, is a large cut off of hardened gl*** to use as a work surface, grantees everything is level, cleans off easy and you wont leave gouges in it like most other surfaces. It also wont burn like my laminated work bench did when I first tried to do this!!

Splinter, please post up some of your work, I bet its better than you think!
