I've been a bodyman/fabricator most of my life. Fortunately I haven't had the *Sh*t! wtf am I doing?* problem yet. The main thing as others have pointed out is to pace yourself. Take a break and regroup so to speak. Think about what you need or want to do and just pick at it til it's done. Your project looks like it was pretty nice to start with. Good luck, I'm sure you'll do fine...
When I started the rustoration on my old Jag, all I was gonna do was pull the engine to fix a rear main seal oil leak - then I saw the holes in the floors. Next thing I know I've got car parts everywhere, and the more I took off the worse it got. If there ever was a time to sit down and ponder what the heck I was doing, that was it! But I didn't, I just plunged in. 3 years went by before I went loking for the engine, which had been sitting in a corner on the engine stand all that time, that's when I found out how bad the motor was! Go here if you want to see some scary pictures.....http://www.cardomain.com/ride/505677 The point is, if you have an idea of what you're headed for, plot a course and go. What's that saying? A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.
Spend countless hours a day reading every post on the HAMB then after a few weeks you will realize how much you could have gotten done on the '50
I have done the list thing and its not my cup of tea, I agree on looking at it as many small tasks get one done and move onto the next, for me the best motivator is getting a project back on its wheels, when they can roll they are alive, even if its just pushing it outside to see it. Try this roll your project out side then go somewhere when you drive back you will get to see what it looks like as you drive up to it.
I plan several stages of the build and then attack them one at a time depending on the mood I'm in. That way you can change to something that is thoughtless when you don't feel like a big challenge. When I am working on it everyday I set a goal that something must get accomplished each day. The projects are just a thousand little projects that eventually become a finished car. And I always finish with a beer or two
LOL!...Atta boy. I am just about finished with my 31 Plymouth...I was wondering if I can come to your birthday party...you won't believe this, but mine is also MAY 27th!
Yep... we all do. Break it down into little parts like T-Man says. Also... it helps if you go to car shows and hang out with like minded guys... keeps you pumped up about working on your project. Good luck! Sam
Like everyone is saying, one thing at a time. Instead of looking at the finished product as the goal and it seeming miles and miles away, every aspect of the build is, in and of itself, it's own goal. Much the same way one would approach distance running. Looks like you have a great car to start with. Keep us posted with your progress.
Just takes a lot of planning (which works out well since I am usually broke). Your '50 looks like one that used to belong to a friend of mine up in Castle Rock WA.
