Hey guys my name is Adam I am from upstate ny (lake george area). I recently inherited a 1951 mercury 2 door project that my father purchased about 10 years ago. He was not well for the p***ed few years and p***ed away this spring. The car is now mine and I am hoping to have it back on the road this spring.

Car info: Original flathead with 47000 miles on it, 3spd manual transmission with older hurst floor shift conversion in it. Shaved handles and badges. Car starts and has been converted to 12volts.

Gonna be posting in another part of the forum asking for some recommendations how to make the car a reliable driver. Great to find a place with other people who enjoy cars as much as I do.

  2. Working on that car will be a great way to keep the memories alive. Good luck with your project and welcome to the h.a.m.b...

1951 Mercs make "GREAT" Kustoms. They need to be Chopped to have the "LOOK". I can still remember my first chopped '51 which was started in 1973 after watching the movie AMERICAN GRAFFITI. It was later known as the MIDNIGHT SENSATION!!! It was a BIG show winner everywhere it went. Calif kustomizer Rod Powell painted it Candy Purple/Lavender Pearl. Leadman Bill Hines of Bellflower, Ca did most of the Kustom work. It was AWESOME!!! It's now owned by a SUPER Wealthy guy from Jupiter, Florida.

Welcome on the HAMB John D'Agostino...
I know you will love this place.
Sometimes its a bit light on customs... But events like the Showcase Of Kustoms and other activities lately will change this for sure... and will put Customs back on the map again.

I really would love to get in touch with the new owner of your old - fantastic - 1951 Mercury Midnight sensation.
We would love to include the car in the Custom Car exhibit at the 2011 GNRS.
If you have his contact info please email me at :rikhoving@xs4all.nl

    Thanks

    Hey Johhny
It's about time you showed up here on the H.A.M.B..
Thanks for props on the Midnight Sensation paint job, but I think you may have forgot Butch Hurlhey chopped the Sensation before it went to Hines. Remember he was already chopping Curleys 50 and my 51 when your car came in. You took it to Hines for some more custom work. When it left Hines and came back to my place Butch and Willie Wilde both did more work and straightened the rest of the body. Curley and I blocked and prepped it for prime.
You brought it in for paint a year or so later.
You did a fine job with the design and making it a show winner. I have always felt that was one of the best looking 51 Mercs that rolled out of my shop.

Very kool! Welcome aboard from Okieland. You have the right idea, just get it on the road
first and let the rest happen later.... I've been working on mine for Fifteen plus years and
still not done. If I'd quit driving it so much it would help... too much fun to drive. Let us
know if we can help ya out. Good luck!

    Happy Trails, Mick
