A friend sent me an email with several custom car pictures. This '54 Corvette Nomad was one of them. Anyone know if this ever existed?? Looks like an older picture, so not tinking it is a photo shop. Cheers, Bob
Off topic just a bit, but still applies. Guys have done the same thing to early Camaros and late 60's/early '70's 'Vettes too. Personally I think a '67 Camaro looks darn good as a long-roof. But it is really different........... pdq67
I saw one a few years back that a guy made from steel but would have been a little larger than the real deal. I was here in TX @ goodguys. Anyone seen that one? I wasnt painted when i saw it.
The Waldorf Nomad was one of a series of custom Corvettes for the 1954 show. The Nomad was adopted to the BelAir line in 1955 and continued in it's orginal form until 1957. The 1958 to 60 Nomad was a Nomad in name only. www.superiorgl***works.com is reproducing the Corvette Nomad/
Saw one (clone I would ***ume) roll through the Me*** Auction in St. Charles a couple of years ago...
Some picture I found Cheers Ben and Mika 52Fiper project http://www.americandreamcars.ca/html/cool_cars_12.html
I've got photos somewhere of the hand made one that was floating around the shows a few years ago. I can't remember where it was built or who built it though. Big bux for the one Superior makes but it could be built period correct, wide whites and all pretty easy. Maybe build it with an Olds 303, Cad or nailhead in it like some guys did with the first generation Corvettes back then.
Here's a link to a recreation: http://waldorfnomad.com/ I know Zane and saw this car being built. Nice ride.
There is a company reproducing these bodies. they were available at back to the 50's last year for some astronomical price.
I posted this on the extinct car thread before but cant get the link... From what was gathered chevy made only one for that years Detroit Autorama and was destroyed shortly after the show.
I remember reading someplace recently that you can get a complete gl*** body /and ch***is package to build your own.
Superior Gl*** Works in Molalla Oregon is building 25 of these. the protype and the first production model are done. built on a new vette platform. very good fit and finish. all the trim and gl*** parts, plus the drive train make the $125,000 sticker seem almost resonable. I was just out there a couple weeks ago and am impressed and $124,975 short of a purchase
Maybe we could all chip in $5 each and come up with enough cash to buy one. Then draw names out of a hat and the winner gets to drive the car for 6 months. Then we have another drawing from all the people who kicked in the original $5, and so on, and so on.
I met a local car guy last year that swears he knows where the 1954 Corvette Nomad is located. He went to the owners barn and saw the car. Yes, he has tried to buy it. He would not tell me where it was at or even what town/state it was in. He said the owner is a real old curmudgeon that is impossible to talk too and definitely won't sell. He told me that he is waiting for the guy to p*** on and will make a move to get the car at that time. I figure one day, I will find out if this story is true.
A few years back at the Corvette Carlisle event I took a pic of a silver one white top and red interior. It was a superb car and speaking with the owner/builder he actually used a 55 Nomad roof to get the project off the ground. There was a blue prototype at the GM Nationals one year that was done with big wheels. It was impressive but they never took it any further with production. Crunching the numbers I guess they figured there would be no market. Too bad, huh. I guess there was too much Camaro influence..
Here is a couple of links from youtube with the Nomad in it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTXRdv_oX2w&feature=player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRmlDhaiYJc&feature=fvw Steve
