This was our sixth year and our last when you don't let a bad ass a truck in with six strombegs and a serious chop who has got in for the last 5 years because its got a low mount a/c. But you let in 100's of ralley wheels, stock 5 liter valve covers and ratty rat rods you get pretty bent. If your going to have criteria stick to it.

A lot of people made it in last year with no problem, then this year did not.no change anywhere on the car from one year to the next.WTF is up with that? A lot of people were pissed over the criteria that did not make sense. Will not go back! Ever!

I don't want to look at a bunch of smogged small block street draggers with disk brakes. I find it hard to believe that if your car is truly traditional that you couldn't get in.. Or Tman really looks 20 years younger than he really is.

  4. The Czars said after last year they would be tightening up the entry criteria.

You mean the one with BILLET pulleys, BILLET A/C compressor (mounted low, so it probably got missed last year), BILLET brackets, 20" rear wheels with rubber bands, who did a hole shot upon being rejected, into the crowd while making a left? The one I kicked out of the show for good for said action? Whom I saw IN the show later??

Just wondering? Oh, and here's a smiley face so it's all ok. :D

Not trying to offend anyone here guys. But having ONE gate this year was so that we could try and catch MORE of the cars that everyone complained about LAST YEAR. Guess what, LOTS of 17"+ rear wheels and BILLET got caught this year. One guy had a BITCH'N deuce sedan, everything was spot on, except his billet steering wheel. FAIL. He also had gotten in in prior years. His comment, "crap, forgot to put the upholstered cover on the wheel." Why would anyone go to the trouble to build a great traditional car, only to put a billet steering wheel on it???

I also sat in line with what I though was a car that would get in. It didn't. I was upset for about... three seconds. I parked where everyone else did, went in and had a great time. I paid less to get in and parked in the first row, so it was almost like it was in. Nice cars, good people, great time. I'll drive back next year, and if I don't get in, I'll do the same thing. Why let it ruin the day, then all you do is spend the day picking aprt someone elses car to see why it shouldn't have bee let in.

Four of us traveled 560+ miles in the 53 Ford to get to Decatur. We did get into the show but we made sure that we reviewed the criteria and the car very well BEFORE we left. For us its not so much about getting into the show as much as the adventure in getting there. Thanks to the Czars and all the volunteers. This show is great!

I really just do not get the I got rejected try to sneak it in mentality. Straight up my panel has a lot of OH My gosh No parts according to the format of this show, am I going to change it, no, am I going to try to force my way into a show that has a beat and vibe different than the one I have, no. I like what I have and it's my thing, am I going to force my thing on you, no. You know your car won't pass, why be all pissed off? No body was looking at chrome at his show, it was about other stuff, I can totally understand that, chrome and shiney is fuc--ng pricey. There are a lot of other shows I can just roll right into, do I have to be a jangler and try to force my way into this one, no. Would you want to go to a Blues festival and listen Barney music? These guys have the right to put together a show to whatever format they would like, if they will only let in cars driven by pet monkeys, say la vie bitches you aint gettin in without the monkey driving. Respect their right to put on the event they wish and be a good and positive influence or stay home and weed the lawn.

Just a quick comment. Those of you that know me personally, know that I live in the United States of America. The one that existed when I was a little kid. Where the rules were the rules. You were home by the time the church bell in town rang it's 5th ring, or it was your ass. And you COMPLETELY STOPPED at stop signs. Even if it was in the middle of nowheresville. That being said, each year I volunteer to run the inspection gate. And honestly, I know the crap I'll have to deal with. But I do it mostly because the other guys are able to do MUCH MORE than I ever could during the year. So I feel it's my duty to bust ass as much as I can on Friday and Saturday.

I'm planning on taking on the task of defining each inspection point this year more in depth, and then running my definitions by the guys. Then we can post them. Wheels will be a big one.

The opinions on the bitch'n wagon are a good example. "Style". Yep, they were steelies, and the style was correct. But not the size. And if we let steelies in because they fit the style, do we let in 19" Torq Thrusts? People will for sure bitch about those. And yet, they are the same "style" as the ones available in 1962. And if we let them in, and no one bitched about the wheels, they would inevitably bitch about the guy with rubber bands who got in.

Like several said, the few that (and I know this has to be the reason they were in the show) snuck into the back gate after being rejected are the ones people are citing for why the wagon should have gotten in.

And we're back to everyone focusing on the few that snuck in or were crap, but met the criteria, instead of the HUGE FU*KING AMOUNT that were spot on. Plus most of the dudes bashing the show WEREN'T EVEN THERE. Or have NEVER been there.

Whatever. Everyone else had a great time. And I get to donate (via everyone who attends the show) a ton of money to an organization that helps my brothers-in-arms again. And that makes the whole day, and the shitstorm on the internet all worth it. I know the other guys and DW feel the same way. We get to do a small part in helping others with problems. Ones that we REALLY CAN DO something about. And that's just fucking cool. :D

  21. well heres my 2 cents.
some of us drive over 900 miles to go to a 1 day show.
you know what we checked the criteria before we drove the 900 miles .
this year we volunteered our time when yes we could have stayed in the line outside and not given 2 shitz about helping some friends out. these people host the show so we all can see what kinda cars are out there they have in there minds what they want so let them, have it anyway they want .If you drive around you get to see a variety of cars that were awesome back in the day and to see them in the present day is way cool . Its almost like being there when they were new.
Also so what if your car didnt make it in the show, the parking lot was just like the show inside only new cars . To me its all about having fun and meeting new people and seeing old friends .
Hey I could complain every show I go to that my cars are always digitally deleted or nobody ever takes pictures of my cars . who gives a crap stay home if your gonna whine that will leave more room for us to have fun.
these people donate alot of the proceeds to charitys and to people who need it most you should think about that our country and not the fact that your car with an LS1 engine didnt get in or the 20" rubber band tires that made you park outside and just go have fun .
Also did you see how big that place was think about this they could have made you park your car all the way over by where the venders parked there cars and then made you walk to the show now that was far. so stop crying and go to there show with an open mind and relax and enjoy yourself .
looking forward to next year maybe they will plant some trees or get a big circus tent with 3 rings . this was just my 2 cents and if you dont like it it sucks to be you

I agree. It sounds like an elitist show that allows only the lowest common denominator in.

I'm not sure how you can jump to those conclusions... Have you been?

You want an elitist show? Check out www.hotrodrevolution.com.

    Or even www.hambdrags.com.

    No apologies either...

  24. In my travels, both inside and outside the fence, there was a pretty good selection of cars to be enjoyed. By parking outside the fence it was $15 less to get in (so your charitable donation was minimal).

Did you not enjoy driving your cars to Decatur? Were you so bummed out that it ruined your trip back home? If so you missed the point of the exercise anyway.

Some of you guys need to look at this with a bit more of a can do attitude and a little less confrontation.
It's been said, by nearly all the Czars, that it's not personal.

I know many of us could use the exercise by walking from the spectator lot anyway. :D:eek::cool:

"foreign". What's wrong with foreign cars? Nothing in the criteria about them and people owned and customized them in the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. Ever see Von Dutch's custom Mercedes? Or an Anglia gasser? Talk about elitist baloney!!

    Heh. Nice, Ryan!

From our site "We are not trying to be elitist or snobby, nor are we judging what is “cool” or “good”. The Hunnert Car Pileup is a show for a specific set of vehicles and style of craftsmanship."

It's funny how we get into this debate EVERY year for 9 years running now right after the show, and most of the complainers are from those who never went, like 29Nash and 36couper. It makes me laugh.

Anyway the complainer who started this post was whining about waiting in line. It happens. Sorry. We have 1000 cars to get through the gate. That takes time.

He was also complaining about the effort needed to get a drink. That's the way the law works. Sometimes you have to buy a ticket so that you don't hand cash directly to someone handling food. You almost always have to show ID. It's the law and it's site policy. Take it up with the government.

Finally, he complained about the distance to the bathrooms. It's a bit of a hike, but it's a huge site. Personally, I'd rather walk a 1/4 mile (not really that long, but OK) to a nice, new bathroom facility, than use a portapotty 20 feet away. Of course, I'd have to plan ahead and not wait until the "urgent" level, and along my walk I'd check out a bunch of cool cars. But I'm just a dumb city kid from Illinois.

Seriously Al? Did you see the pics at the show in any one of the picture threads of Dirty Dan's '36, which is really close to being a clone of your old coupe? Come on... There hundreds of super nice cars that go to the show.
