Mono leaf in FRONT...... how are you supporting the weight off the rubber stoppers or you just bouncin down the strip. Lets see some photos of this. mine has the springs positions swapped top on the bottom for the cheap and easy lowering job and it rides on the stoppers and it very anoying.... its about to get a clip or a new front end.
4" monoleaves plus a flip would be about 8"-9" lower than stock in the rear. I don't have pics of that. But, close...here's mine with 4" monoleaves and 2" extended shackles (picture it two inches lower in the rear)... Doing the 4" monoleaves and a flip will definately require a notch in the rear. As mine sits above, I have about 1 1/2" of travel with trimmed bumpstops. Its just enought to keep the axle off the frame. If you're curious, the front is missing the three shortest leaves. The front axle will soon be flipped with a notch in the frame to get it just right. The same could be accomplished with one of Sid's 4" drop axles and a couple of leaves out or 2" (maybe 3"?) drop monoleaves.
Here is The Sydicate's build thread ... All you need and more it's a great thread !! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=460642
Okay perfect thats what I wanted to see! Im setting mine up with mono leafs and flipped axel in the *** end. And I'll probably pull some leafs off the front when I start working on that. Thanks!
I don't know what you're asking, they've never hit the stops... even with a half ton of gravel in the bed. It's a special monoleaf spring designed for the weight and dearched for about 3" of drop, not just one stock leaf, if that's what you mean. And it the ride is pretty decent, at least for a straight axle truck.
i just completed a flip of my rear 2 weeks ago with a DJM suspension flip kit from summit racing. i have right at 1-1.250:" clearance before it bottoms out on the frame. i took original bump stops out and bolted in their place a 3/16 thick section of an old trailer mud flap. with the gas shocks i have i really have to jump hard on the rear bumper to get it to touch the frame. i havent put more than 5 miles on it so far, so time will tell if driving down the road will make it bottom out often or not. i am in the process of lowering my front right now. its tore apart, and i hope to have it back together in a week or so, back pain permitting. i already had a 3 inch dropped straight axle from Sid at droppedaxles.com, and had one leaf out, but since i flipped the rear, i now want the front lower, and am pulling 2 more leafs out, 3 total, and will see what happens. leonard
So your avatar pic shows the truck after the 3" dropped axle w/1 leaf removed? I was able to get a 5-6" drop on mine with his 4" axle & 1 leaf removed. I have an Olds 455 in it tho. Be carefull with 3 leafs out...will be very spongy Also, as far as flipping the front to the top of the springs, I've read that bumpsteer will be a problem
yes, in that pic my truck has the 3 inch axle and 1 leaf removed. if you look through my photobucket link on my signature, you will see how the rear now sets lower than the front, thus me wanting to lower the front more. yea, i bet the big olds motor is a bit heavier than my SBC. i have talked to some guys who say that me pulling 3 leafs will be scary, but others have done it and dont have any complaints. i will see how it goes, and if need be will get a set of lowered leafs or mono's for the front. just dont have the cash right now. i dont have the option of flipping the front axle, since, with my 3 inch dropped axle, the u-bolts would be dragging the ground. leonard
Yeah, as far as flipping it, it was for the other reply above. If the leaf pulling doesn't work out, you could see if Sid will take your 3" for a 4".
very true..... im kinda on the wrong side of the scrubline as it is, thats why i want to stick with my current 3 inch axle and do the leaf lowering. looked through your pics, nice yellow 59 you got going. leonard
Thanks. Yeah, I gotta check that scrubline issue after I get it running. I'm going to deflate 1 tire & see what happens.
