Plaster/Vermiculite recipe for spit wad sculpting?

  1. I had an article saved somewhere but i cant find it.

    can anyone lend a little insight? not planning to build a whole body, but maybe a cool grille or something.

    any input?

    You want to make a mold and then a fibergl*** part?

    What process do you want to use?A foam and bondo grill shape, then a epoxy mold.From there you could lay up the grill and paint it.

    Hey Mitch,

    Yeah, as I remember it, Ed started using jus straight plaster, then moved over to the Vermiculite to save plaster, and make for a lighter casting.
    I've built non HAMB related parts using this method by first cutting out 3/4'' plywood station bucks with hardware cloth nailed to these for basic form and shape, and finished with a light coat of plaster or Bondo. File and sand to close perfection, and finish out the master with primer and spot putty. This method is much faster than using steel rod and thin pieces of sheetmetal for panel development, but I'd go the the rod route if I were building the part in metal. The plaster/plywood method allows for easy changes should you not like the semi-finished form.
