The '58 and '59 steering gears (boxes), are narrower, about 3/4 of an inch, you will need the clearance, pick-up exhaust manifolds tuck in nicely, and add clearance too.

This has got to be the easiest swap i've ever done.

I need to make some new mounting brackets for the truck rad bat thats no big potatos.

The truck 360 and auto into the wagon resulted in only having to change the motor mounts and making my own ****** mount.

I used a segment of the original 57 3 w/ od and the truck motor mount and welded them together.
The drive shaft? No need to change... it was near plug and play.

I see the guy who started this thread must have gave up on the project after 2 posts. Sad.

I may be showing my fading brain cells but do yo mean 351 Cleveland? I read an ad on C/L for a 74 352 ford ,I've seen 351C/400M/360/390 but no 352 FE's since the early 60s.

352 CI is the 360. my bad.

  7. I used 65 F100 mounts to use a 460 in my 84 F250
A 390 flywheel will work on an early (internally balanced) 429-460
Junkyard 351M stick bellhousings will bolt up (get the blockplate too) and let you use a 66 up trans, like a 4 sp. toploader.

Crites motor mount with FPA headers.Drivers side needs a bit a m***aging.Very nice fit and works with the 57 steering box.Number 5 tube hit the mount........no big deal here.

now, i've re-read this post twice, and i have a 58 fairlane, i need a new motor and the 57 ford isnt much different from the 58.

so your sayin i can install a 429 or a 460 in my 58 ford? with 352 motor mounts??? not sure if im followin right but if so, im gonna be on the hunt for one of those motors now

Dad made the mounts for the 460/C6 in his '57. Tried moving the engine around several times, but wouldn't fit comfortably. Blower motor hit/was too close (had stock SCJ valve covers and spacers to clear roller rockers) and was touching stock '57 steering box with manifolds. Pulled the 460 and did a 351W/4 speed instead.
Pic is the rough-in with shorty unequal length 5.0 Mustang headers, and a '58-59 box with a Borgeson joint:

The Wurth-It/Beretta/Grand Prix rack conversion looks to be the hot ticket, IMO.

The easiest bell housing to find is one from a 351M/400 pickup. A 390 flywheel will work on a 460.

Crites has mounts for 460 specific.Get their crossmember too.PM me if you like....:)

  13. Newer 460's were externally balanced. 390 wheel will make it shake like a hound ****tin' a peach seed.

Checkout the 460 F150 or F250 motor mount bisquit. It may drop into the holes on the frame. There were several over the years, try to find a parts book with pictures. many were two piece, an adaptor plate with a bisquit out of the factory.
