In 1969 I took a ride in a modified 1968 AMX, driven by my cousins boyfriend ( RIP Ed ) He raced a 66 Ford Fairlane at a traffic light somewhere on Long Island. Scared the **** out of me as he rowed the 4 speed, but man was I hooked

the better part...make that the BEST part of my 33 years on this earth!...(not to shadow 10 yrs of fatherhood of course :D )

  3. Now that's funny. I took my mom's alarm clock apart. I was convinced that I should stay up all night so she wouldn't be late for work and that I should make the damned thing work again.

I got a slot car set for Christmas when I was 8 also. Same scale it had a figure 8 track with a bridge and a Corvette and Ferrari. Odd combo now that I'm older.

yep and i used to leave his tools outside by accident when i was little, that drove him nuts, he lost a lot of screwdrivers, remember the buffalo one with the wooden handles? he also lost a lot of those portable c***ette players and flashlights. killed and gutted. :) I think looking back he doesn't mind now, kept me out of trouble. He was here recently and he wants my 72 Aurathetic electric motorcycle to rebuild, kind of a switch, He won't say it but i really think he likes all of the parts I've machined now.

For as long as I can remember its always been cars! I guess my first memory (age 4) is my grandfather taking me to the junk yard after dinner on Sundays. He would walk his meals off and I would climb in and out of the wrecks......I sure miss my grandfather.

Let's see, I was about 12 when I got hooked on the little hot rod magazines, hanging around the United Cigar Store waiting for the new issues. So that would make it 1955 or about 55 years. My father was a carpenter, he liked cars but didn't work on them at all. But when I was 14, he bought me a $20 back row of the used car lot '49 Chev and put it in the back yard for me to take apart and figure out how it worked. No, I never got it back together but I sure learned a lot. My first hot rod was in '62. Local welding shop run by Gordon Ross in Rhinebeck ran a '37 Chev NASCAR coupe at Agawam, MA. He had a '47 Ford tudor that he used as a mule to break in race motors with. Put the new motor in the sedan, push the welding truck up Route 9. He sold me the car, Offy adaptor to Ford trans and angle iron small block motor mounts on front crossmember for $50. I got a 283 Chev from Volce's salvage on Rt 9G (wish I had all those cars that were in there now) and rebuilt it by walking up Route 9 to ask Gordon questions and then returning to the shed where I worked with one drop light and no heat, using whatever tools I could find, mostly not automotive tools. But I got it running, ran good, Gordon gave me a 3/4 cam, and I swapped a banjo (inherited from a relative) for a Corvette two four setup. Ahhh, the good old days.

As long as I've been alive, Dad has been a Hot Rodder since the '50's.

  22. Glad to be born into it, third generation so that would give me 38 years and two days at time of posting.
