Seems some guys have all the luck! Fellow rodder that doesn't do the computer thing just scored a beauty yesterday. 1933 Olds touring coupe that's in pretty solid shape. The metal filled roof was done waaaaaaaay back just to keep rain out. Headliner and interior very complete. You can tell this car was used to the max for mileage, but still completely intact. I never knew there was a water injection system in the 30's, but there it was. The side vents on the hood are all straight and work fine. Even the brakes still work. 5 original military style wheels counting the rear mounted spare came with it. Rims were still holding what had to be 60 year old tires.... Should be a cool rod..............
I have several water injection setups , but I haven`t seen one like that before , like to find out how it works.....
That's a cool old Oldsmobile !! Being a 6 cylinder would make it a F series, the L was an 8 cyl. I really think this is a sedan, as the Coupes were 3 p***enger.
That is super cool. I like those headlight stands. I guess I could Google it, but what is "water injection"?
Somebody correct me if I am mistaken, but that looks more 35-36 than a 33 year model....front fenders should tell and I say a sedan also....not a touring or a coupe
It looks like a model 33431 which they called a 5 p***enger touring sedan. All coupes were 3 p***enger in both 6 and 8 cylinder cars. It is a 33. Nice car!
I'll try to get other shots of the injector system. Current plans are to put a 58 Olds J-2 in the car. Wanted to find a way to retain the injector set up for wow factor even if not truly functional. Longest roof on a 30's coupe I've ever seen too. It has a trunk, but wasn't easy to get a shot of it. Looks like a hump back sedan, but shorter than most. Spare mounts on the trunk like a C-kit.
Just a few other pics you might be able to gleen a few more details from. The headlight buckets still have solid bottoms. The tail lights have tag lights under both. The one shown is just to light up the Olds tag. Not the slightest kink anywhere on the grille. Bumpers still straight. Solid door bottoms.
Nice project. This is another GM wooden-structured car so don't just start unbolting it from the frame and lifting the body off, it may crumble and deform. I believe when these GM sedans have the trunk they are tagged as Sports Sedans. Coupes, whether 3 or 5 p***enger, are obviously coupes.
32 Auburn hit it on the head. Since it's such a rare bird, I couldn't argue that is wasn't a coupe until the numbers were run down. It's officially a Touring Sedan! Still cool........ 115" wheelbase with the shorter 6 cyl. hood. Kinda like a Vicky with a bolt on trunk. I'm still envious of the cool tin this guy collects like the very solid all steel unmolested Anglia sitting beside the Olds.........
WOOSH...it's different for sure, i hope the man has deep pockets! man where do you people get that kind of cash. but as i say that, my son probably has $25,000.00 in his 27T coupe. O hell never mind...POP.
Being a fan of Oldsmobiles, I sure am glad to see this one coming around. The couple building this one are in the habit of creating award winning cars and do it ALL themselves. It will take awhile to complete as they don't cobble things together. It's a tough call to take one car apart to build another, but here's the 58 Olds that may give up a running gear for the 33. How many remember the cool chopped 29 A pick-up with the 60 flattie at the recent indoor show in Maryland? Yep, look for the 33 Olds to be pulling the A to nostalgic drags in the future...............
Nice car and interesting plans. If the 58 is a solid car I would think that it could get a 455 for getup and go to make a nice cruiser out of it. I had a 34 four door when I lived in Texas and the wood in those would cause most guys to p*** them up.
Just a few more pics of the car coming apart. Even better shape in some ways than first thought. The wood is very good. Very little will need to be redone.
'58 Olds is more at home being used as a jukebox anyways, just stick a record player in it and put it in the corner.
That idea might not be far off. The rear will be in the 33 also. So won't be much left but wall hangers. Hmmmm, would that trunk make an interesting couch?
i have this car and is almost restored the water injection is not correct, this unit is caled a decarbonizer it works by a nob on the inside of the fire wall and was used when you would shut down the car for the night you simply hold nob then flore gas peadle then quickly shut off car this would send fluid into base of carberator andto cylinders, this fluid would then set wet on each piston and loosen up any carbon over night and when you start engine in morning it would blow carbon out exaust.
