Hey I know that most of us here are into period correct landmarks, destinations, etc. I thought it might be interesting to get a list together of good destinations for hotrod trips (or perhaps for those of us with more time, a cross country road trip?). I was thinking it would be nice to know about cool historic landmarks, old diners, old gas stations, covered bridges, amusement parks, hot rod speed shops, recurring local car shows etc etc etc.

If responses could be in the form of:

    Name
    Address
    Description
    Images

I could try to get a google map of all the destinations made up. I know when I take my car out for a drive it's always nice to have the excuse of a cool little weekend adventure to take it to a new place.

    Thanks,

    Haney

    Jack Daniels Distillery
182 Lynchburg Highway, Lynchburg, Tennessee 37352
Located south of Nashville, free tours 9-4:30. Very cool tour of the historic distillery, and free lemonade and cookies. While in the area, the city of Lynchburg itself has some really cool antique shops / thrift stores, as well as some very good southern style restaurants.

Well here in Granbury TX, We have a drive in from the early 50's The Brazos Drive-In. Its neat and close to DFW for a day cruise. Not the best movies all the time but its still something fun and something new.

    The Shiner brewery,
    Lonester brewery Hall of Horns,
Highland Park Pharmacy in Dallas (same bar, tiled floor, soda fountain, and milk shakes since forever ago. I think it opened in 1912),
Oh, the list goes on and on...

  12. Mickey Lu's is a great burger joint. My wife's grand parents live about 2 miles from the place, we live about 60 miles north.
For a hot rod destination, I'd say the fall colors drive along US-2 in the upper peninsula. A vague destination I know, but pick your section and cruise it. Beautiful.
Hey, Kelly!! I'll trade you a sack of Mickey Lu's for that green "A" sedan you hold...... I'll even deliver!

  16. You could spend a week here in the Black Hills and Badlands. Just look at the Western 80 miles of South Dakota. Amazing drives , neat stops.

Boondocks Drive In south of Deadwood on 385. Moonshine Gulch Saloon in Rochford. Easy to find, we don't need addys ;)

  17. Tman, you said it! Took the family to Denver a couple years ago and hit the Black Hills and the Badlands on our way home. (Sounds funny, but we were NOT going to be that close again for a while!) I hadnt been that way in ages. I forgot how beautiful the Black Hills are. We've been talking about going back next year, maybe the year after because my son was too young and wont remember much from it.

In Mass, Rte 2, the Mohawk trail in the western half of the state, esp. in the fall.
Rte 100 in VT, stop at Ben & Jerry's when you get to Waterbury for ice cream.
Seacoast NH Rte 1a shore road, and Portsmouth for restaurants & live music.
Rockland, ME which has the Farnsworth (Wyeth art), and Owl's Head Museum of Transportation,
which has the Mustang protoype, 1920's V8 powered bike and many vintage planes.
