wow, i'm not the only one! i left here about ten years ago to join the military and i'm back now and i can see a HUGE difference in the air quality. HUGE!! we're definitely on the right track and i hope it continues to get better.

    clean air is NOT overrated.

And you don't have to give up your hot rod to get it, either.

AB32 has nothing to do with clean air.

AB32 has nothing to do with regulating CO, or nitrogen oxides, or sulfur dioxide, or particulates, or any of the other things that are real pollutants.

It's about regulating CO2, which is a pollutant only in the political sense, part of the rapidly collapsing 'anthropogenic global warming' circus.

It's kinda frightening to think that people involved with cars, people who should know better, would not understand the difference.

The money behind the opposition to Prop 23 (which very substantially outpaces the pro-Prop 23 funding) comes from all the rent-seekers looking to make money off of carbon regulation.

Tell that to the melting ice sheets. Personally, I am not too sure man made CO2 is causing it, but I'm not just going to put my head in the sand and then potentially see my kid's environmental futures turn to **** because I found it convenient to deny it. Until somebody comes up with a better plan than doing nothing, I'll see what what I can do to at least try.

Reminds me of the ozone layer arguments too. Glad I didn't buy those either:

Sorry, no hating from me... I agree with you.
What you describe proves that the regulations that have been in effect prior to AB32 are working. AB32 has regulations far stricter than the ones which have, "started making the place livable again". 23 merely puts AB 32 on hold until the state is in better financial condition. When we are in better condition, then they will phuck us a little more.

In the 1950's when I was in elementary school many days we were not allowed to play outdoors at recess because of the smog. We had to stay in the cl***room and play "indoor games)....aka...no fun.
I grew up where every morning we saw the San Gabriel Mountain range and we were right in front of Mt. Wilson. above Pasadena.
Most days, if you could see it, by noon the mountain range was all gone, all covered in smog.
The weather-reporter on the evening news would always tell you the "smog alert" number...high, moderate, low, that sort of thing.
Today, we never hear about "smog alerts" and I never hear about children not being able to play outdoors at recess.
Mt. Wilson and the entire range of the San Gabriels can be seen every day, even in the heat of the summer.
So, while I will never tell anyone how to vote, for the same reason, I don't like having anyone tell me how to vote....especially when most people that tell me how to vote are just repeating and reacting to someone's else's email or opinion. Voting should not be the result of a knee-jerk reaction.
Voting should be your vote cast after you have digested all the facts from reputable sources and stayed clear of the extremists and their "spin".
Both sides are pros at the old "spin"....and for that we all suffer.
So.....the responsibility is on all of us, to cut through the spin and read only the facts, not the hype.
Hot rodding is a hobby. My health and the health of my loved ones is not a hobby...it's our very lives.
I've had asthma for 40 years and I, and people like me, can tell you what it's like trying to go about your day feeling like you are drowning.

So, before I vote, I will, once again, read all the facts on this and all of the propositions.
The sad part of our state of politics is these lousy television/radio commercials....every candidate and every proposition's ad makes it sound as if "they" are the only realistic answer, therefore you "must" vote for what they preach.
Well, I say, 'eat me"......I like to think for myself, thank you, and if I don't personally digest all the facts than I will simply not vote on that "issue".
I wouldn't want my "uninformed vote" to be a wrong one.

The trickery of politics nationwide is disgusting. Voters should not be voting for those who yell the loudest or wear the bigger flag lapel pin.
How about people vote with the facts, not the hype and noise?

On another note...complaining and repeating false information has become a national pastime. Most people just "hear" what they want to "hear", then they are all warm inside and they can get another beer.
In my city, there were things that I didn't like going on...with the budget, spending and little "closed door secrets" going on.
So, I got myself elected and became the mayor.
We've all heard the cliche', "if I can do it, anybody can do it".
That's my point. I'm no politician and all I wanted to do was be straight with the 11,000 people that I SERVED and give them the truth each and every week.
I'll tell you, it's tough to go 8 years without giving someone the finger or telling the town idiot that he's a ****in ***hole, but I maintained some composure and toughed it out..........and made the town, in my opinion, a better place and a more "open" government. No more "backroom secrets" ******** going on....never again.
So...I've said it before but here I go again....get involved at any level of your local/state/national politics, or at least consider it. A meeting, a forum, supporting a candidate or a cause, anything...but just get involved.
At least, if you fail, you will have tried.
Knee-jerk reacting without the facts is not "getting involved".
American policies have become a result of the "spin-doctors" and those who stretch the truth and promise you the world.
    ********
Take control, read and digest for yourself. Do not become part of the mis-information-chain. Think for yourself.

As always Mazooma1 gives a reasoned and well thought out commentary. Thanks Doug. I absolutely agree for finding out for yourself and then voting according to your informed wishes.

I agree...and I feel that no one in Calif WANTS bad air or pollution but the track that many in this country are on is wrong-headed. The link between C02 and global warming has NEVER been proven and the data that HAS been collected is now suspect because of the shenigans of those "scientists" involved in Climate-gate. Without going into a lot of detail suffice it to say that we, the hot rodding fringe element, are going to take the fall for a problem that does not exist. What cleaned up our air in the past decades was the better control of nitrous oxide emissions...this has nothing to do with C02. I also find it interesting that our air quality has NOT gotten worse since the advent of global warming...and yet we need to take draconian measures to stop C02 emissions. It's a good thing that the trees and plants don't have a vote, they seem to like C02.

I would encourage all to watch the do***entary on Global Warming: The Other Side found at this link... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QW2If_5ZIak
John Colemen was one of the founders of the Weather Channel and is now a meteorologist here in San Diego. Have you ever wondered HOW C02 was linked to global warming? Have you ever wondered HOW Al Gore got into global warming? Watch this video and you will be amazed. Once you know what's really happening you will be even more pissed about how we are be asked to take the fall for our cars causing the demise of the earth.

Not going to debate Global warming, Al Gore, Air Pollution in general - what I do want to say about this is the biggest issue for me, and the part that should scare every car enthusiast is that this gives C.A.R.B. autonomous authority to p*** laws and regulations. No public input, not congressional input, no governor input - just do as they see fit, and that is what scares me.
This is the issue that the automotive watchdogs are worried about, not clean air, not new or stricter laws, it has to do with CARB becoming too powerful.

No debate...follow your own advice and educate yourself about the issues. If you don't think that CARB and other agencies are in a power grab and using global warming as the rationale then you are in for an awakening. As hotroddon points out..."autonomous authority" if that doesn't make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up then you're dead. And you're right, times have changed...there's more to hotrodding than just building and driving a car.

All I was saying that it is unusual for these topics to be allowed on the HAMB, that's all.
