They call those square holes in the bed stake pockets, and the sides that go into them are called---------- you guessed it,-----stake sides.:)

Yup stake sides. They fit in the stake pockets along the top of the bed sides. Gonna put some on my IH one day.

Yep, that's probably why the guys at the tire store used to look at me funny when I had them put "E" rated tires on my half-ton. If the frame is bouncing off the axle...add more weight... and yes, I grew up logging and farming.:D

Anyone who never saw side stakes cause he lives in the city works in an office with no windows and never looks up. The six year old kid next door knew they were stake sides, I don't know if he knows what an ear of corn looks like but he knew this," the truck on Thomas the train had stake sides", and there ya go.

  11. I am always nice!:) And facetious!:D But to be serious for a minute, some questions just make me go WTF? Some questions just strike me as odd, and I am only 41. I guess as time moves on, things that generations before us took for granted the younger ones will have no inkling of. :(

So, what else can we help you with!;)

Stake sides? I thought they were called STEAK sides. You put them on your truck when you took cows in to have them butchered and they kept your steaks from falling out of the bed on the trip home.

No, Those would have to be the higher ones that are hinged to put up for more height. But the most athletic calves would still jump out.

The guys that come through neighborhoods the day before the city picks up heavy trash usually start by putting a few old hoods or pieces of plywood up along the side of the bed. Now they can really overload them and ****ter trash all over the place.

\The best translation from Welsh I can give is "Borrow Boards" as increased capacity in the bed isa achieved more info later.

The racks in this photo are for a show truck, if you were using it to haul something the racks would be swapped side for side so the rails would be inside the bed, same goes for rack bodies. [IMG]

    Interesting in the regional differences..

On the farm in MN they were/are specifically referred to as 'side boards'.

    Stakebed was/is different.

Here in Tenn. i always called them side boards to increase the load capacity. Stock racks like i have in my barn are tall enough to keep cows or calves in the bead, they are higher than the stock you haul. Now a stake bead is a flat bead with removable sides. .....Jobob

And if you're 5 yrs old, climb to the top of the stock rack (6 ft over top of bed sides) and jump off for the thrill, chances are you'll bite thru your lower lip. Ask me how I know.

    :p

    (was on dad's 49 chev 3/4 t longbed, w/300 straight 6)

Almost the same here in eastern CT, once rural farms.

    Sideboards for pickups

Stake body, as well as Rack body are ones with flatbeds and removable sides

  26. Is that the stake sides or the stock?
