Hey Kirk tell me it isn't so. Word floating around the grounds this weekend is that this is the last go around for the Beech Bend event.....
Heard a lot of chatter myself yesterday, Some say its gone, some say its staying. Some were saying the Indy news was "leaked" a little too soon and someone from Goodguys got canned! Guess we'll find out soon!
Well, I'm not there this year (had preplans that kept me away this year) but why would they keep just one race show, they have done away with two this season! I'm guessing it's going too!!!
I don't see that happening. I'm attending this event for the first time. It's an awsome one! The stands had lots of people yesterday, It's sure to be packed today. Unless GG just does away with nostalgia drag racing all together at all events, I think this one is a survivor.
Did'nt get to go this year, had to work!Went last year and it was pretty chilly, and down right Nasty! I really wasn't all that impressed with it, it's a far cry from the Hot Rod Reunion. Guys from all over the country come out for the Reunion, but i really don't see it ever being as big or as exciting as the NHRA event.Way too many Trailer Queens for me! Just my two cents worth!!
I heard the same chatter. BG not getting renewed. Maybe GG does want to get away from the drag racing and cost associated with putting one on.
I just got home from BG. Looking at the stands and the cars today, somebody should have made money, big crowd, great weather. I hope they come back. We will see.
Really? You guys think it was full? I couldn't get over how empty the grounds were compared to about two years ago. Last year it was colder than a well diggers arse in February, this year it was perfect. But the area in the woods by the river looked about empty to me compared to years past. It was still an awesome day with some great hot rods to look at, and mercifully appeared to be far less rat's in attendance!
I did not say it was full, just that they had a great spectator crowd and at $20 bucks a head some one made money! I had a great time and seen a lot of friends, hope they come back next year. The car count has been better in the past though. I seen some high #1200 numbers on sat. Yeah it was better than last years weather. We still have the HRR in June.
I was worried about getting a place to park when i pulled off the main road ,but had a lot of room for show cars. I thought the show car turnout was a little low for such good weather this time of year but was pleased we had alot more race cars than last year.Still a great time and good show i hope its still on for next year.
From what I hear, the cost of the drag strips on this side of the country are the problem. I've been told that the Bowling Green show will be at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta next year, and The Indy show will be at the speedway instead of Raceway Park.
Friday the place was pretty empty in comparision to past years Fridays. Yes I hope the event is continued but how can we or anyone outside GG's suggest that just because there were a lot of walk-ins that they made money??? One would be amazed at all the expenses involved in these deals. Just the liability insurance has to be huge cost. Can you say stumble over an exposed power cord times 10,000, find me a lawyer. Now that eats up a lot of walk-in dollars. By the way I had another enjoyable weekend. I sure hope the GG's folks find it feasible to continue the show.
Yeah, B.G. is a great venue, it's just got the right vibe. Being 25 minutes from home doesn't hurt, either!
Don't get me wrong, the road trip is one of the best parts of the week end but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I hate you folks that can sleep in your own bed after a great day of rodding, racing and B.Sing......
Looks like you had a great weather there, unlike last year. Was looking at some pics posted from BG and a few said the car count was down, seen a lot of open ground there thats a shame as BG is one of the best places in the midwest for a show like this, HHR always fill the place in june, go figure, hope they don't close this one it's the only drag race and show they have left. Only time will tell.
Granted everyone is different, but I was there Friday and Saturday mornings at 6 am in shorts and a t-shirt under a sweat shirt. Yes it was cool but by 830 with the sun up I was comfortable. Yes only time and the ability to show some profit will decide the fate of this and many other events.
just got back myself.great time except for the alabama statetrooper pulling me over about 5 miles from home, but thats another story. the weather the last 2 years has really hurt this show.people have kids/fridaynite football, sat college fb. so im sure thats why the count is down a little a goodguys official told me as i was leaving that some of it would be disscussed tonight after numbers are run. he also said to e-mail ggs and tell them how you feel about it. all i know is except for the kidnapping ,stolen car (buckshot),and the trooper, i had a hell of a good time.
i just got home a few hours ago , it was my first bowling green show , i thought turnout was pretty good show car wise swap meet SUCKED traffic coming in and going out SUCKED i for one would like to see it go to kentucky speedway that would shorten my trip by hours but i like the bowling green site nicew place to have an event my 500 plus pics will be posted soon good meeting denise her dad, and earl shieb, and flipper cant remeber who else was there best part of the show........I GOT SOME OF DENISES COOKIES ha ha ha
Word going around Sunday was that Saturday's crowd was the 3rd largest in Beech Bend's history. The spectator parking area was full. Hard to believe somebody isn't making money. I think in this area the nostalgia drags are a big draw or at least it is for the NHHR. Best GG's event I've attended. Hardly any plastic 37, 38 or 39 so-called Fords. Hate to see this one go. I plan to email GG's and voice my opinion.
Who ever was in charge of parking needs to be kicked in the nuts! There was a ton of wasted space in the parking lot. Cars one row deep with 40 ft wide driving lanes. We had to hike what felt like a freaking mile to get to the show. .....I wasn't about to buy anything at the swap meet.
awesome weather, vendors sold out, many smiling faces. I hear it is the last one and hope like hell that rumor is false. come on, KIRK!, give us the straight poop.
