So I pulled the engine and ****** out of the wayfarer yesterday, and seperated the ****** from the engine, by the way this transmission is about the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Anyway, my question is, is this just a regular 3 spd. with a torque converter stuck in front? If so what parts do I need to put a regular clutch and flywheel in front of this thing? bellhousing? input shaft? starter? or a whole different trans. I really want to ditch this hokey *** setup so any help would be much appreciated.
You will need a bell, flywheel, clutch and trans from a 'normal' 3-speed package. Keep in mind that you will need to re-work the shift linkage since the trans is moving forward a wee bit. Have you checked in with the guys over at www.p15-d24.com ? Have you considered a 5-speed? No, it is not without a bunch of work. .
You will also have to extend your rear motor mounts forward to pick up the shorter bell housing. You will also need the four bolt fly wheel from a 218 or an eight hole flywheel from a 230 from a late 50s Plymouth. You can buy almost every thing you need from vintage power wagon.
hey thanx guys, after checking with the guys at p15-d24 i think I might just stick with this thing, seems they are actually pretty simple and trouble free.
