Im repainting this 32 chevy for a friend and he wants it kandy tangerine over big flake on THE WHOLE CAR . I can talk him into off white scallops but is it still gonna be too much flake?? he is also talking about a off white vinyl roof. He is a really good friend and we worked out a great trade on this ,so I want it to be nice when it is done and all Im sure of now is that it will get attention
heavy flake would be too much. i think it would look just as good with an orange base color with gold pearl on top color would be the same but the finer pearl flake would not be too over powering
I used to try to talk people out of odd paint jobs. Now I accept the fact that thier car is an extension of thier personality. I am still suggestive and will photoshop or do a spay out just to make sure in some cases . Maybe you friend needs to see the color on some metal. Remember it is his car and his vision.
No such thing as too much flake or too bright a color on a HOTROD!!!! Do the tangerine flake wonder taxi and cover the running boards with the same pearl ivory vinyl you put on the roof!!! THat's all 60's style stuff so it also needs skinny white walls on the custom wheels. Choem reverse, Cragers, American torque thrusts or Skylark style chrome wires.
Definate late 60's vibe. How about doing scallops or flames in big flake, over a fine silver flake base, then Candy the whole thing ? Finish it off with some delicate white pinstripes. White roof, white interior. Would not be quite as obnoxious as big flake on the whole car. Did I tell you I hate White.
I did say off white the interior is grey and that wont be changed .This car gets drove all summer and most of the spring and fall and if he feels like it in the middle of winter also. he is talking about driving it to N.Carolina this summer pulling his trailer for his bike.
Eeeesh. I personally think THAT car is the WRONG car for THAT much metalflake.... But it's his car, and if he wants to be "different", he'll have that much goin' for him.... There's "good" different...and "bad" different
Fuggit! I'd love to have a huge ass car that looked like a carnival ride. Like was said earlier, there's no such thing as too much flake!
Put a propeller on the back cuz it'll look like a bass boat. Or maybe it will look like a 70s dune buggy.
Well its almost done I went with mini flake and no scallops Im just gonna pinstripe it I did it with silver mini flake and kandy tangerine and I LIKE IT but he wants to take it to billit proof detroit and I dont think they will let him in because of the valve covers ,he says hell change them byt the seats are some fancy junk yard find that almost look street rod. original dash though
Will there be too much free beer? Will there be too many half naked chicks? Will there be too many metalflake posts on the HAMB? HELLLLLNNNOOOOO!!!!! That looks supasweet; I agree with the skinny whites and chrome reverses-that could be a show winner right der...
Thanks I'll try to find the right girl and take some pics for your mag It would have been too much flake if I would have went with the full size flake Im happy I talked him into the mini flake . BTW if I get any pics of the car out my way the girl will most likley be of the cow horse or chicken type but they never where there tops so that'll be ok right?
Looks good, I wish I had a scanner, I have an old 60s feature of a Chevy like that that was sprayed HEAVY peach colored flake! See, its all been done before!
Thanks guys . I painted the bumpers heavy silver flake with no kandy but dont have any pics yet ,Im going back tommorow to finish up a few things so Ill try to remember to get some pics outside
What is everyone's opinion in if this will get in at Billit Proof ?? It does have a late model interior and radials
If you go through with the plan and have some white on the tires and other areas to bring out the tangerine, then you'd pull off the 60's look. You gotta watch out on the gray/tweed seats with headrests, that is almost as much of a street rod icon as billet wheels. Pulling the headrests would help. The paint job looks great.
The seats are what scares me most about this car. But on the other hand this guy can build anything from nothing and without spending any money , he has cars and parts given to him all the time and just puts togather whatever fits. He also has an oliver tractor with a 350 and turbo 350 trans that he uses to go up town to get coffee I dont know Id hate to tell him to drive it to billit proof to have him turned away
as long as the wheels are'nt "offensive" i think he could pull off gettin in to BP. why not PM Kirk and ask the man hisself? as for the model. get yer wife to dress up in some skimpy 50s garb and pose with it. i've seen her. she's hot!
Show him the last issue of the rodders journal , Its got a really cool gold model A with white accents, its a pagen gold house of kolor blend. It might look better than the entire car in heavy flake. I also did like the idea of the off white with tangerine scallops.
Just my opinion: if you do a heavy flake, I would definitely go for a mid-late 60s look -- avoid scallops/flames, go for a white roof insert, skinny whites & chrome reverse rims. Then you know what would really complement it? Roof rack with a couple of 10' Dewey Weber surfboards!
