HELP!! I need to identify this front end.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by flight75, Oct 16, 2010.

  1. I have soem concept drawings in a 72ish Hot Rod or Motor Trend and the original actually pretty sleek looking. When it got to production is where it got fat and ugly!

I will post some more photos in a couple hours. I think you guru's will be able to positively identify this front end with the new photos, this thing has a goofy spindle setup. Thanks for all of the help so far guys. I found a parts pic of the pacer r&p and it is a good representation of what I have.

Yeah, all AMC's (not counting the Jeeps and the
FWD Eagle and Alliance, etc.) from the last ones
produced and going back at least to sometime
the 1950's had bolt on spindles. Among other
things, the 'bolt-on' feature makes them popular
for building trailer axles, because if you ever
bend or otherwise damage one, you can replace
the spindle rather than re-doing the whole axle.

I have an older Chiltons Manual and it has an exploded view of a Pacer front end, looks just like the one in the picture. AMC's also have a 4.5" bolt circle and GM style calipers.

Cool I will keep that in mind. No that we have a conclusive idenity to this front end is the a way to tell what year the front end is. I know they were only produced from '75 to '80??? but did they have any changes in those years, or can I go to the auto parts store and order a ______ for an AMC Pacer.

Thanks for all the help guys.

No changes in the front end parts for the
5-year production run of the Pacer. I haven't
cross-referenced anything, but I'll bet that
most stuff, like calipers, pads, rotors, wheel
bearings, ball joints, spindles etc are the same
as other AMC cars going back a bunch of years,
so finding parts should be no problem. The
steering rack and *probably* the A arms are
    unique to the Pacer though.
